So I've chosen all of the parts for my first gaming build, pc part picker link here, only thing I'm not sure about is the processor.

I was going to go with i7 8700k but thinking I will be able to save money by going with i5 8600k, will the i5 be able to perform well for high frame rates on high settings? As I will be going with a high refresh rate 1080p monitor.

If all you care for is gaming and you are 100% certain your GPU will be a GTX 1070, you can go with a Ryzen 5 2600 instead on a b450 board using stock cooler and save yourself a bunch of money.

Even if you want e-sports at 144hz it should work just fine.

The i5 would be ok but go with the newer i5 9600K and a Z390 board. You could go with a cheaper cooler as well like the Arctic 33 esports for the i5 if you want to save even more.

Also the Corsair TXM is better than the CX for less money.

Hey thanks for the advice especially about the cooler and power supply, I probably will go for the 9600k like you suggested as I didn't want to go overboard and buy a processor that the graphics card wouldn't need if that makes sense?? I didn't want the graphics card to bottleneck the processor, I think that's right anyway I'm still a total newbie.

Also why the change in board, just saying because I forgot to mention I already ordered the one on my parts picker list from Amazon lol

The reason for the Z390 is that it supports the i5 9600K out of the box. The Z370 might need a bios update depending on how old it is. The i5 8600K is still a 6 core cpu same as the 9600K so if you have already ordered the Z370 board then stick with the 8600K if you want plug and play.

What's your budget though?

Honestly, don't really have a super concrete budget, I can afford the 8700k but I didn't want to spend unnecessary money on a CPU that would be too powerful for the GPU. Unless maybe getting the more expensive one would futureproof me a bit even if the 1070 couldn't take full advantage of it??

I apologise if I don't 100% understand this isn't something I've really been able to find a lot of info on so that's why I posted here :)

Don't be to worried about bottlenecks. If you get a 1070 with an i7 or an i5 you're fine. Although it was suggested, I personally wouldn't bother with 9th gen right now unless the price difference is negligible.  If you're looking to save a bit of money and keep similar performance to an i5, get a Ryzen 2600.
