New Phone: Recc's and Swaying Opinions Welcome.

Ok, so my phone died abruptly on me a week ago and I've been stuck using a Nokia 520...which has been a relatively painful experience. At least I had some form of backup phone though.

 

I've been looking at what's available and at different price points, and I think I've pretty much sold myself on the Samsung S8, which I can get for $499 CAD.

It has a great camera, the fingerprint placement sucks but I can get over that with the IRIS scanner and a typed code. Price is also pretty nice.

I was considering the Samsung A8, however it comes with cheaper eMCC memory which I don't really want to get again; it's what I'm going to blame on the death of my Asus Zenfone 3 Zoom.

 

Looking For:

• Nothing massive (160mm in height and under).
• Great battery life.
• Must support HSPA 2, 5 and LTE 4. Bonus for LTE 2, 5, 7, 12/13/17/29.
• RGB LED notification light.
• Good camera.

 

Don't Want:

• Xiaomi, Huawei, or another Chinese brand as they usually lack proper band support and Huawei has been known to use eMCC memory in flagship tier products.
• OnePlus 6T.
• Something very expensive. I'll likely get another phone in the summer.

 

Is the Samsung S8 my best bet? Or am I missing something else?

They're kind of hard to find new, and I don't like the huge chin and forehead.

Plus I've never been a fan of stock Android.

Then probably just buy the S8, though I'd probably just spring for the Note 8, or an LG something

The Note8 is 3x the price. It's also way bigger than I'd want this time around.

LG's phones are meh for me. I've played around with a friends G7 and wasn't impressed. The V40 is too expensive, V30 is known to have issues.

So far it's checked the most boxes. I gave reasons why I don't want the Note; it was also stated in the OP I don't want a huge phone this time.

Just go to GSM arena and search by Snapdragon 835 there's less than like 20 phones in that category anyways.

I'll probably just end up settling for an S8 myself. Too bad the Note 7 had issues, it would have been perfect.

Agreed. It was still on the big side but much more manageable than the 8.

I might get a Note12, since I'll actually have use for the SPen then. Should be interesting to see what it's turned into by then.

 

I thought about the OnePlus 6, but they're not that easy to find. The ones I have found are almost $200 more than the S8, and I don't think they're $200 more phone.

Next to impossible to find new and it has the same face problems as the Pixel/2

There's nothing wrong with a used phone, my pixel XL 1 was only $200 came perfect
