Adapt PSU to GPU

So I know it's not recommended to do this, but my PSU is rated at 500W and I am putting in a GTX 1060 which recommends a 400W for the whole system, and I don't have any more money right now otherwise I would buy a new PSU. However, it only has 2 molex and two satas on the PSU, all of which are being used up by fans, SSDs and HDDs. So my question is, what is the best way for me to split it out from one of those then adapt to an 8 pin for my GPU?

 

Currently I have both satas being used up by a SSD and a HDD, then one molex is being used up by a HDD and the other by a fan, however, the fan does passthrough so I have a spare molex, but it is a little far away and I'm not sure that those molex to 8 pins would reach, and they all use two molex. So the plan currently is to get a molex to sata, then a sata splitter, then a dual sata to 8 pin. I am thinking this to balance out the load so its not all on the satas or all on the molex.

It could be dangerous to do that.

8-pin PCI-E a rated for up to 150W.

Either a SATA or two molex cable(s) are not ELECTRICALLY rated for 150W.

You have a high chance of overloading the cables, that section or the peripheral rail on the PSU.

So to be blunt:

If you want to keep your PC you throw away the PSU and NOT USE IT EVER AGAIN!

If you don't, use it but it _WILL_ kill your system!

lowest rating I have seen for molex is 6A.

Double them up and you're within spitting distance of 150W on the 12V rail.

PCIe 8 pin over two SATA power is however, indeed, asking for trouble.

Run the system without the 1060 until you can buy a proper PSU. Don't put that JSU (Junk Supply Unit) near your new graphics card. A fried card isn't eligible for RMA/warranty.

Cooler Master MWE BRONZE 650W
or this

CORSAIR RM750x White

 

Want the white one, but the extra cost is hard to justify.

It's really not. The MWE is a low end PSU (not explosive, just low end) and the RMx is a high end unit. You pay for better efficiency, reliability and components.

Yea but on a budget, and it's either have the 650W not or have the 750W later. Plus I don't need the extra wattage. I know about all that good stuff but am leaning towards the MWE.

You should never get a 650W PSU (most stupid sized wattage, too little for dual good GPUs, and far too much for a single GPU system), and you probably will never need a 750W PSU (SLI/X-Fire sucks).

 

Just get a good PSU. Link a store.

Oh stop. 2x molex will be fine. 4 pin molex connectors are rated for 11 amps at 12V. They're typically used with 18 AWG wire, which, by conservative estimates, can carry 6-7 A of current. (More often rated higher) That's, at minimum, 6.5*12 * 2 = 156 W. And the 1060 is NOT a high power card.

the Segotep Gold seem cheap and decent.


After that the usual higher end Gold units.

Look at the CL1 and CL2 values.

The MWE Bronze should be quite similar in 550W and below, 600W and up are the ones one could think about...
