Hello everyone,

I am new to the forums and am hoping to get some help with updating my PC.
I have a decent rig as of now (see added info below) but, I am trying to see what I can upgrade to get some better results.
In particular I recently stated playing Assassin Creed Odyssey however, even at low graphic settings I am hovering around 35-45 FPS.

My goal is to maintain a solid 60fps during gaming, at Medium-High settings for most games.
And hopefully, in the near future move to VR gaming.
Not sure if I just need to upgrade my GPU to a 1070/1080 or if doing so would bottleneck me too much.
I really appreciate the help and thank you in advance!

Your CPU is ok, regarding performance, the CPUs haven't really changed that much during the past few years, we got stuck and the improvement seems to be at the point where we are right now, however, power levels did change and it seems to be that with every new release, the power consumption is getting reduced, that helps manufacturers install still powerful CPUs with lower power consumption and thus reducing the heat of the system, so if you want to upgrade your CPU is up to you! I can tell you that since the 6th generation of Intel core series, the i3, i5 and i7 were able to run any current title.

Your RAM is also good and if what you are looking for is to improve FPS, then you definitely need to focus on the GPU, your options are also good, any the 1070 or 1080 can help you maintain the rates you want.

Thank you both for the reply!
Do you think Hyper 212 Evo is going to be sufficient for the overclock or should i try and get an AIO liquid cooler to be safe?
And as for the GPU upgrade, that is what I thought might be the case.
I will start looking for a 1070/1080!

These are the possible upgrades that you can make...

  1. Better CPU cooler. Get a cryorig h7 and overclock ur cpu.
  2. That's an alright psu fr budget gamers, but if u r planning to overclock ur cpu ND gpu, u might want to upgrade it to something more reliable. Even cx series from Corsair or masterwatt series from cooler master should be better.
  3. Better GPU. Get a used 1070/1080/980ti. As Turing is out, u can find the prices of older gpus to fall.
