Hi everyone and happy new year.

I am using an outdated desktop computer at the moment and its time to upgrade. i have a budget of 2k and not a penny more. Q.Q

anyways, i'm having a harder time to pick out the parts for this build for some reason, perhaps you can guys help.

so far, this is what i have in mind.

Sabertooth z87 motherboard

i5 4670k

Fractal R4 case w/ window

evga GTX 770

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130921

corsair 850W GOLD

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817151102

240GB ssd samsung drive

windows 7 64bit

i can't decide on what ram goes with this motherboard

as for the heatsink, i want noctua but i dunno which since there are so many difference kinds.

I'm just planning on use for everything computer things like surf the web/youtube..etc/ school and play games (not a hugh gamer) but still would like a quality build for newer games.

so some question off the top of my head,

1. would you consider this an high end build, not necessary an enthusaist build?

2. should i get a sound card and if so, what are good sound cards?

3. am i missing anything? besides monitor/mouse/keyboard.

4. initially i wanted to go for the radeon r9 290 when it was $400 and all of sudden it jump up an extra 130, all i heard was coin mining, what is that?

5. is my power supply more than enough?

6. what ram should i get? and do i need more than 16GB?

Thanks in advance.

1.yes its a high end build

2.If you want better audio out of say speakers or headphones you own and they need it go for it if not no

3.Not from the stuff you mentioned

4.coin mining is basically obtaining virtual money by "mining" with the cards to get bitcoins or litecoins etc

5.its more than you should have for a single 770 build

6.8GB should be more than enough unless you render or heavily multi task

for Noctua..u12s to no to very little oc, u14s for mild oc, nh-d14 for even more oc...I know on newegg u12s and u14s sell out often, nh-d14 is usually always in stock..not much more than other too,

I am not picky on sound, I havent used a soundcard in over 10 years :) I just use onboard and its always been fine for me. but again that is subjective to the user

power supply is more than enough,

I'd say save little go for 8gb of Corsair vengeance lp,,*I not a fan of  tall heatspreaders* 16gb only if you use programs that need the ram

@BKsun:

The Noctua NH-U12S will do a good job cooling the cpu. The NH-U14S would also do the job.

  1. It is a high-end build.
  2. No. It can always be added later should you find the need.
  3. If you want to store a lot of pictures, video, games, etc. you may want to include a 1TB or larger hdd, Seagate Barracuda is usually a good choice.
  4. Bitcoin and Litecoin mining are activities that provide a basis for e-currency values. People are able to earn money by completing very complex calculations that require a great deal of computing power. Like the gold rushes of history, e-coin mining has attracted numerous people looking to make money with little effort. It turns out that the R9 290/x gpu are very good doing this sort of work. So, every new miner wants as many as they can afford. That is why the gpu are very hard to find and have jumped in price.
  5. Your power supply is far too large. I would suggest something in the 600W range - even that is larger than you need. Look for a modular or semi-modular unit. Preferably from Seasonic, XFX, FSP Aurum, or Corsair.
  6. For the needs you described 8GB of memory is more than sufficient. I would suggest 2x4GB, perhaps G.Skill F3-12800CL9D-8GBSR, F3-1600C11D-8GNS, or F3-1600C11D-8GNT.

1. Yes.

2. Probably not--depends on your audio hardware.

5. It's overkill. If you're planning to sli? Still overkill.

6. Whatever looks good. How much you should get depends on what you're doing. \

So i'm deciding on G.Skill ripjaws ram by recommendation.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231489

and also for heatsink, decided on the noctua 14U

also, more organized post by using the guideline:

1. Budget & Location
2,000 USD

2. Aim
Using the pc for school, watching videos, regular web surfing and gaming. Main game that i play on the regular is 'Tera: rising' and also aiming for future-proof games, other games i'm thinking about play like the new batman orgin, battlefield 4, need for speed games.

3. Monitors
1 24' monitor by asus, and thinking about having it connect to a TV via HDMI, VGA perhaps.

4. Peripherals
I am currently using xp pro and upgrading to win 7 pro 64bit, i'm avoiding window 8 due to reading reviews. i have a mouse and thinking about upgrading a keyboard if i have left over from my budget, currently the keyboard is 'razer tarantula".

5. Why are you upgrading?
I am upgrading because my pc is outdated, 5-6years ago it was built. need it to be future-ish proof or can at least last me another 5-6years.

another question, my currently Power supply is 620W by corsair, will i be able to reuse it or its better to get a new power supply?

2. since i already ahve 240GB sdd evo, and thinking about having another 2-3 HDD for storage, it was mention 850W is overkill, maybe 750W?

3. any recommendation? anything you might want to take out/put in?

thanks again :)

You can use your current psu.

How much storgage do you want/need?

There's no point getting the Pro version of Windows over the normal version.

Be more specific about which psu you have? Wattage alone isn't enough.

Are you planning to sli?

It would help to list all the parts you already have.
