Ethernet

BlueWoF

I am thinking about using ethernet instead of WiFi for my pc, and I only have cat5e ports in my walls. I was wondering if it would make any difference between cat5e and cat6 cables with speeds. Thank you!

Unless you want to go 10gbit, i believe not.

It would be nice for 10gbit! I was just asking if it would work with a cat5e port.

Nope. You need cat6 for 10gb.

Yea no. Connectors are the same but the wires are shielded better with cat 6.

This allows you to get higher speeds.

Something to do with capacitance between the twisted pairs of wires.

Unless you buy a 10Gbit switch or router then it doesn't matter for gigabit speed if it's Cat5e or Cat6
