So I was wondering... why can motherboards only support 1 cpu? I mean like is it possible to have more than one CPU and hypothetically run at double processing speed? Has this already been a thing or am I stupid?

Some of linus’ server PCs have two CPUs. There’s a video of Linus touring some factory where they have a 4CPU motherboard. I forget which... Dual CPU boards and stuff are mostly for servers and such. It doesn’t run at twice the processing speed, but it does have twice the power, effectively.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

 

How many watts do I need? ATX 3.0 & PCIe 5.0 spec, PSU misconceptions, protections explained, group reg is bad

servers exclusive, because multi-CPU optimization becomes a thing when you have multiple CPUs. Latency especially

Most people don't need that much processing power. Why make a product that'll sell a handful of units, if any at all?

Doesn't make good business sense.
