Depends what you’re using it for. But most people would probably recommend a Ryzen 2600/2600X/2700 over the 8600K for that price. You might be able to find a good used 8600K for under $200 from someone that is upgrading if you want to stick with Intel. Also if you have a local Micro center you can likely get a good deal on a CPU/MoBo bundle

might want a bigger cooler. 120mm is kind of small for an unlocked 8th gen

Yeah the Corsair H100i v2 is usually $90-100, so you get way more for your money. 120 and 140mm AIOs generally aren’t recommended, due to similarly priced Air coolers performing better.

Also try to find an EVGA G2 unit, they’re higher quality than the G3. And Get 16GB of ram

$80 seem a little much for a cooler for an i5. My 212 evo keeps my 6600k @4.5 under 75 easily. idk how much more power an 8600k uses though I guess.

a 212 is a much better cooler than a 120mm AIO too. AIOs tend not to perform as well, but a lot of people pay extra for them because of the looks. 8th gen runs toasty

I just wanted to make the pc built around white/black/rgb so the Kraken was a great choice especially b/c of looks. It's mostly not for temps but just for looks.

I don't really understand the need for 16GB. I personally have 8GB and never have any problems.

Thats fair.

I agree with that. I am fine with 8gb too. needing more than 8gb just really depends on what you do.

Games minimum requirements are soon becoming 16gb rather than 8gb, and you could even get 16gb of slower ram, which would be maybe $40 more since Intel cpus don't benefit from it that much. Also, for that gpu, why not just get a r5 2600 and balance out the build, and you could use the extra money to get 16gb of ram at 3000MHz+

also if you buy an air cooler it comes with them normally with thermal paste and preapplied on aios

Yeah but just for future builds or whatever it's only $5...

why go for rgb spend the money on better spec

Computers aren't just for specs, especially as looks are great. I couldn't get much better specs with whatever anyways so it's fine.

I understand the looks for the cooler, but not the RAM. Like I said you can scrape by with 8GB but there’s really no point to limit yourself. Just spend the few extra bucks on 16. You can get a 2x8 2400 for like $125-130

the ram can be black its just a color

Just let him have his good looking PC.

buying your own thermal paste is fine, if it’s good quality you’ll get a couple extra degrees from it anyways.

I would honestly just get an R5 2600+X470 board and 2x8gb RAM. It should save over $100 but you'll get more RAM and with the GPU he has there will be no performance difference whatsoever.

EDIT: For mobo you could consider the prime pro also if you want the RGB RAM to sync with the mobo but I'm guessing that doesn't matter because you chose corsair fans that won't sync with pretty much any mobo and any ram except Corsair's IIRC

For PSU, if you're fine with mail in rebates either grab the one I have here or this one

https://pcpartpicker.com/product/79tQzy/corsair-rmx-2018-750w-80-gold-certified-fully-modular-atx-power-supply-cp-9020179-na

Otherwise the G3 is fine.

And you could consider these RGB fans instead that are wayyy cheaper

And if you absolutely HAVE to have an RGB cooler this is pretty cheap and pretty solid
