I made a topic recently about SLI, but I wanted to make a new one since it's a different question/topic.

 

So the question is, can I render 3D and compute with two GPU's in SLI? I've searched google and I haven't come to any straightforward answers.

I know that photoshop and such uses hardware acceleration as well. Not sure if two cards work or...?

Depends on the program. Some very specialized programs like agisoft photoscan etc allow multi gpu, but it depends on how parallelizable the workflow is.

 

For 3d and compute most programs should allow multi-gpu.

 

Oh and those programs don't require sli to work, they just use both gpus independandtly.

SLI is only used in games. Using multiple GPU's for work like rendering doesnt care about SLI support or not, for example you could render things with multiple 1060s even though SLI isnt supported

if you use an application that support GPU acceleration, then yes you can use multiple cards to compute faster, it will work well...you don't need SLI for this, you don't even need the SLI bridge, just plug in the cards and setup them in your application so it can see and use all of them and it will work fine. You can even use an AMD card for OpenCL work and an nvidia card for Cuda acceleration in the same machine if you feel like it.

If the programs is designed for it, there will be benefits. Can’t really get any more specific without program names.
