Which GPU vendor should I go with, based off my motherboard?

REDACTED_USER

Hello, I have a question:

I have an MSI motherboard (its website --> https://www.msi.com/Motherboard/A68HM-E33-V2.html ), and I was wondering...

Since I already have an MSI motherboard, would it be to my advantage to purchase a MSI gpu instead of a PNY gpu?  The MSI gpu is $15 more than the PNY gpu

(They're both GTX 970's w/4 GB GDDR5)

Doesn't matter. Get the cheaper one if aesthetics isn't important to you.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

Thank you all for the fast replies.  I just thought of another variable:  MSI Afterburner.  I WAS planning on pushing the card's limits a little bit... would the brand differences still be trivial?

MSI Afterburner can be used regardless of which card you choose, that's not an issue either.

Thank you, wanted to make sure.  (The CPU I have is an A8-7600 I got for $50, so no problems there with compatibility)

all the cards are made to specification, much like a hdmi cable, each one might have its one slight differnces but they all under the hood are the same thing

Cooler is unimportant, for my case fans are large enough to give some breeze through the large case.  Thanks for the info though, I will think of that when planning my next smaller build.

the only benefit to matching brands is if you for some reason want to use their packaged utilities, for example asus' AIsuite.

Additionally, MSI Afterburner is normally the most used GPU software and it's pretty straightforward to use.

I, personally, would go with the MSI card but that's mostly because I'm unsure about the reputation of PNY cards. With regards to compatibility you should be completely fine. Have fun.

Both will work just fine with your setup, take a look at the coolers though as both companies have multiple models running with different cooler, some good, and some bad, also take a look at the condition of the card, and preferably go with the one that has the least amount of discoloration on the rear of the card (behind the backplate if there is one), as discoloration is a reliable sign of use.

I only match for the logos/lighting and such. But me putting water blocks on most it won’t matter but I do love red and the strix logo.
