Posted October 19, 2018 Hi guys, my friend was on the way to building his first build but accidentally dropped his GPU onto a hardwood floor when taking it out of the packaging. The result was a small part of the PCB breaking off near the power connector (see image) I'm posting this thread so he can decide if he should wait for his other parts so he can test the GPU himself, or order a new GPU in earnest. He doesn't have a PC to test the card in (his other parts won't be arriving for a few weeks), so I am wondering if anybody can shed some light on if it even has a chance of working. The exact card is the ASUS 1060 3GB DUAL Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/984772-broken-or-not/ Share on other sites
 Posted October 19, 2018 I'd honestly say it doesn't matter as there's not a lot going on in that area and the power connector itself is still okay. Don't quote me on that though, maybe @manikyath has an idea. Posted October 19, 2018 The power LED is probably done for, but the card should still work fine. Also, why would you include a poll for this? mechanical keyboard switches aficionado & hi-fi audio enthusiast switch reviews • how i lube mx-style keyboard switches Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/984772-broken-or-not/#findComment-11871629 Share on other sites
 Posted October 19, 2018 None of the traces in the PCB are broken, so it will still work. BUT the power connector will more loosely connected. Try not to put any strain on that with tight cable management. Positive Mental Additude! Just another Tired IT guy... Posted October 19, 2018 To me, this looks like it should work, The SMDs (LED I think) that are there may be toast though. Don't quote me on that though, maybe @manikyath has an idea. i'd risk it, maybe check the resistance between +12v and ground on the connector, and if it's not a dead short it's probably just fine, aside from maybe the "power is here LED" Link to comment https://linustechtips.com/topic/984772-broken-or-not/#findComment-11872376 Share on other sites
