Stuttering and FPS drops and inconsistent GPU usage

Hey Guys,

I have a computer which is almost 3 years old with the following specs:

- Antec HCG-620 Powersupply

- Samsung SSD 750 EVO

- GIGABYTE B85M-DS3H-A Ultra Durable

- Intel i5-4590 Processor

- 8GB DDR3 Ballistix PC3 - 12800 CL9

- AMD Radeon R9 380

For a week or so now I am getting huge FPS drops while playing for example Fortnite. The game stutters regularly..

I ran Afterburner while playing Fortnite to see what my components are doing while playing and i noticed that my GPU usage also drops a lot from 100% to sometimes even 0%. At the same time my cpu usage is very high. So my question is if this could be the result of a cpu bottleneck. But then again I haven't had this problem 2 weeks ago..

I also ran the Time Spy Benchmark with 3dMark and my Gpu usage was constantly at 100% so it seems to be a Fortnite problem. So maybe they changed the game in terms of cpu usage in the last two weeks?

Thanks for the help in advance!

Jonas

Do you have any other games to test it on? CPU usage over 80% usually means a CPU bottleneck. Hitting 100% DEFINITELY means a CPU bottle neck. If you have a 4790K lying around somewhere to drop in, you could test it with that. But try running some other games and watch your usage. If you see a similar trend, then the above is true

Hey I'm having the same problem as the original poster. I too have 100% GPU usage and ~50% CPU usage

GPU temps always under 60 C underload

i7-4790k & gtx 960

How can I fix a bottleneck without buying a GPU?

Trying to play Monster hunter world at medium 60fps without GPU usage drops/stuttering

Help would greatly be appreciated : )
