Hi

So I have a GTX 1070 8gb (https://www.msi.com/Graphics-card/GEFORCE-GTX-1070-GAMING-X-8G.html <- this one)

with the launch of the RTX cards, there are many people who are upgrading to those cards so there is are a lot of GTX 1070s that people are trying to sell I can get one for around $350AUD (my current one cost me $650AUD ish)

is it worth getting a second one and adding it to my system in SLI, as I would assume this would theoretically double the life of my system in the graphics department (by life I mean till its a bit outdated not till it stops working)?

thanks a lot for any help

No, you will need a new PSU, you may have performance issues.

If you really need more performance today, I would try to sell my 1070 and get a 1080 time but that is still hardly worth it.

What do you even do with your system that would warranty throwing out another 350 bucks today if you would only need it tomorrow?

SLI support in games is highly dependent on whether Nvidia makes a proper SLI profile for n game in a driver release, and whether the game itself even scales properly for it.

That being said, for that kind of price it could be worth doing anyway, as 1070 SLI beats a 1080TI assuming there's good scaling in the game in question.

Make sure your PSU is at least a good quality 80+ Gold 750W unit.

SLI is in kind of an awkward state right now. Game support is very hit or miss, and even supported games may not scale that efficiently. Also, none of this takes into consideration whether or not you actually need the extra power. Chances are, you don't.

If you wait another year, prices will be even lower. A year after that, even lower still. There really is no point to buying a second one right now unless you need it for hardware acceleration (not gaming)

Should be okay for if you choose to do what you're intending.

No. SLI isn't really worth it these days, especially not with 1070s.
Sell your current 1070 and buy a 2nd hand 1080ti instead.

This is a comparison of the 1070 TI SLI vs 1080ti. If the 1070ti in SLI struggles to outpace the 1080ti, then the 1070 non-TI doesn't have much hope. I couldn't find any comparisons for the 1070 non TI SLI vs 1080ti.

Plus you'll use less power, have less hassles with games that may not support SLI, won't have to buy a HB SLI bridge, and be easier to cool a single GPU.

What monitor are you using? Depending on your monitor, you may be better off sticking with what you have.
