So recently I've started wishing I had a bit more performance but I don't have enough money to completely build a new computer. My current build is a result of craigslist sniping over a year and putting those parts together to make what i have now.

Current system specs:

cpu- xeon e3-1220, sandy bridge, socket lga 1155, quad core 3.1ghz base 3.4ghz turbo.

motherboard- Intel Desktop Board DZ77GA-70K

gpu- r9 280 3gb

memory- 10gb ddr3 1366, 4x4 and 1x1

storage- 640gb western digital hard drive

psu- 650 watt corsair psu

I'm pretty sure my CPU is the bottleneck in games because of the lack of single core performance soi was wondering what upgrades I had available to me and if they would help me. Thank you!

It's not bad

Only thing i would change is the GPU.Cpu shouldn't be a bottleneck as its a quad core 1060's aren't bad and their quiet cheap as in 200 or less for a 6gb model if not id look at getting a GTX 980 their pretty good

What are you using pc for ? gaming/editing ?

both. mostly gaming as i do most of my work on my laptop but if i need to do video editing i use my desktop because my laptop cant handle that workload.

most of the tasks i do are very cpu intensive. is there any way to see what's causing the bottleneck in a game or something? last time i checked my cpu gets a cinebech score of 400

You've got a Z77 motherboard so if you wanted to a 3770K could be dropped in (possibly need to update the BIOS first)

so doing some testing my cpu was maxing at 100% on all for cores while my gpu was sitting at around 15-20% usage. i think theres a bottleneck xD
