Disk Management - Change Disk Numbering?

Hey guys,

See attached photo. I just installed a 1TB NVME M.2 SSD as well as a 500GB SSD. I was hoping to make the 1TB NVME my 'D' Drive (Disk 1) and the 500GB SSD my 'E' Drive (Disk 2). However, when I installed the 500GB SSD it automatically made itself Disk 1. Is there a way to change it to Disk 2?

Thanks.

Whether it is marked as "Disk 1" or "Disk 2" has no correlation to what drive letter can be mapped to it. Your 1TB drive is mapped as D (which is what you wanted), and the 500GB drive is currently not mapped, so you can map it to E (like you also wanted), and then be done with it. I am failing to see the problem here.

You just move the lettering around until you have the order you want

Page 1 32 of owner manual will give the order of the Sata connections  Please refer to your manual

If you move your drives around. I would reformat all the drives and do a clean Install of Windows. The reason is that program will try to find stuff on the wrong drive. If you only change the lettering , you may have to format the new drive, and not C

So in conclusion be sure that you have copy of info you want to keep before doing anything. This will take a lot of time to do. Be sure before you start.

One thing I would like to mention. Is the way the drive are seen.

In Disk Management . The Drive are seen by the way they are connected to the MB .

In Windows File Explorer the drive are seen by the letter they have.

Depending on what is important to you . You have 2 options or you could change both

Of course I could be wrong lol

You can remove drive letters from everything but the C drive and then label them according to your preferences.

Disk 1, 2, 3 is in reference to the SATA port they are using if I'm not mistaken.

The NVME drive was Disk 1 though when I first installed it. Then I added the other SSD and it became Disk 2. Like everyone is saying though I guess it doesn’t matter since I can assign the drive letter I want.
