Getting a used GPU. Could use some advice.

For reference, new RX 580's where I live still cost upwards of 300 USD.

I'm about to buy a used one for ~$175, it was bought December of last year. Seller was upfront about it being used for mining, not surprising since he had 8 on hand. I asked about voltages and temps and he told me it ran 55 C at stock voltage. Seems good but I'm no miner and can neither confirm nor deny if his claims are possible.

I'd like to have your inputs on whether or not I should go through with this deal.

Ryzen 5 1600 @ 3.9 Ghz  | Gigabyte AB350M Gaming 3 |  PaliT GTX 1050Ti  |  8gb Kingston HyperX Fury @ 2933 Mhz  |  Corsair CX550m  |  1 TB WD Blue HDD

Inside some old case I found lying around.

I bought an MSI 1080 Ti two days ago. Not the same card, clearly. But it was an ex mining card. The guy says he started mining in February, and only did so for ~15 days until bitcoin crashed. I don't follow cryptocurrency but I guess I could have checked it just with a quick google search. The card seems fine. Runs like an aftermarket 1080 should. I haven't messed around with OCing much yet so Can't say anything about that, but I'd imagine if it runs, it OCs. I would say go for it. It's most likely still under warranty anyways (at least for another 2 months).

edit: Shame, First RX 580 I found on amazon was an 8GB card for $220

As there are already threads about this I will just link you some that I already have comment in them.

I'll copy what I think it's related to your question:

"You can't be 100% sure that a part is 100% good, but you can get the percentage higher by demanding a video/screenshot of stress testing/real world usage, with temps of the part so you know it is in working condition or you don't get scammed with another model part. Other than that you can read online in the forums for well known problems with the particular model, for example some GPU models has faulty fans and they wear out quicker etc etc. Just so you can be prepared into eventual problems that may occur. Other than that it should be fine.

Oh and if you don't want to risk, always check the sellers profile and see if he sells a lot of tech parts, so you know if he does it for business or not. If it's a hidden profile, don't buy."

55 C sounds very low to me, unless he was running some special setup.

To test the card, I would run something like heaven or furmark, see if it's stable and make sure the score (in heaven) is roughly inline with what it should be

(assuming the CPU isn't the limiting factor)

8gb. He says it's only for pickups. I've asked him to send videos of the card running. Still waiting for a response.

The warranty is a good point.

Yeah, prices for components here are ridiculous.
