Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro or HyperX Cloud?

DT770 Pro's or HyperX Cloud I - Worth the Extra?

  1. 1. Is the Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headphones worth the extra price premium for music enjoyment, movies and games?

    • HyperX Cloud I ($99)
      1
    • Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro ($200) + Modmic
      3
    • Beyerdynamic DT990 Pro ($200) + Modmic
      5
    • Sennheiser Gaming One/Zero (~$200)

I've been doing a lot of research on 3 different options; HyperX Cloud I's (don't want the usb 7.1), Beyer DT770 Pros (80 ohm) and Beyer DT990 Pros (250 ohm).

I have tried both of the Beyers in person and like them both a lot! The 990 most of all, but I feel that I already get outside disturbance with my crappy Turtle Beach P11's. I'm just wondering as there's nowhere I can try these in person if it's really worth the extra to go for the Beyers over the HyperX Clouds, I know the mic isn't particularly fantastic on the Clouds vs. using a modmic etc but I'm trying to consider the value it offers and if the Beyer's are $80 better sound, I have heard they are much better soundstage than the Clouds, but is it twice as good?

I listen to music while working/playing MMO games with BGM muted so positional audio in game isn't particularly important to me as I play FPS very casually but picking out the instruments in music definitely is. I would still like single player games to feel immersive and alive, but I'd say overall music and movies is more important factor for me.

I usually default to Sennheiser for a good pair of headphones and use HD4.4BT's with my phone, but kinda went off the Gaming One/Zero since where I live they cost more than the Beyers (although without the mic)

How much are the beyerdynamic mmx300 where you are at? They are basically 770 with mic.

You could also get an 880 as that is semi open and not open or closed like 990 and 770.

If you have the funds I'd definitely go for the beyerdynamic.

The DT 770 Pros seem to be only 145$ on amazon.com. Where do you live??? The DT 990 Pro are also around 190$ with an amp, case and 32 GB micro SD card, a great deal. But remember 250 Ohms will require a good amp to use it to its full potential which might cost some more.

If you already have an amp then consider the DT770 Pro 250 Ohms they are only 145$, or if you can pay more the DT990 Pro 250 Ohms. Otherwise you will have to buy a cheap amp for around 50$. If you can't pay for an amp then buy the DT770 Pro 80 Ohms for now and later down the line sell them and upgrade.

Do remember that closed backs will give better isolation, punchier bass usually whereas the open backs will have sound leakage but a much wider sound stage great for FPS shooters and open world games and also for music and certain scenes in movies. If you will not use these headphones in the open world or with many people sitting in the same around then open headphones will be a much better experience.

You say where you live, headphones are more expensive, in which case, look at the AudioTechnica M40X they are around 90-100$, they are more balanced than the DT770 Pros, have detachable cables but they are a step down in terms of overall sound quality and stock earpads suck. But with 20$ earpads and a modmic they will still be cheaper than just a DT990 Pro and will usually be much cheaper than Beyerdynamic and also sound much better than the Cloud. Consider them an option if the rest are overpriced.

The Sennheiser Game Ones are the best gaming headsets you can buy with a great mic but the Beyerdynamics are obviously better value. The Beyerdynamics won't be twice as better because they might not have twice the sound stage. But remember sound is subjective and even 25% more technical sound stage might mean a great jump in sound quality. Also for content the DTs are going to be much better especially for music.

I went from cheapo in ear earphones to Sennheiser HD 202 which was around 30$ and everything sounded at least 10 times better the bass was just there and highs were brilliant, but then those broke I got a replacement and they sounded the same. I decided to upgrade to ATH M40X and they are really worth the money over buying useless gaming headsets worth bad soundstage.
