Just wondering if there is any real performance gain in games when using a PCIE-E 3.0 slot over 2.0, would it depend on the card and the amount of VRAM etc? I'm currently using 2.0 on some crappy motherboard, would it make a difference if I upgraded to 3.0 (this is all assuming the card supports PCI-E 3.0)

Depends on how high end your card is. Trying my 7870 on PCI-E 2.0 vs 3.0 it wasnt noticeable.

At the moment not really. From what I know, graphics cards don't even use all of what a PCI-E 3.0 8x can offer, which is what a PCI-E 2.0 16x is.

Most cards these days are 3.0 compatible, but a good 16x PCIe 2.0 is still plenty

PCI-E 2.0 is the same as running PCI-E 3.0 in 8x meaning basically no performance hit.

Ok, thanks guys :)

i am running a hd 5750 on pci-e 1.1

i wanna know the difference between 1.1 vs 2.0 vs 3.0

Each generation is double the bandwidth. PCIe Gen3 x4 has as much bandwidth as Gen2 x8, which has as much bandwidth as Gen1 x16. Again though, no current GPUs fully saturate that.

I ran a Firestrike Extreme test awhile back.Sapphire R9 290X Stock cooler @1040/1250MHZ (4% Overclock).

The Higher Score in the Test is PCIe 3.0

The Lower Score in the  Test is PCIe 2.0 (forced in the bios to run at PCIe 2.0)

yes. FYI don't thread hijack, especially when the thread has been dead for over a year...

Yes, all PCIe devices of any length and any revision are compatible with any slot of any size and any revision. There is no such thing as PCI Express incompatibility :)

Also please do not revive 1+ year old threads in the future, or post your own questions in someone else's question thread, there's no reason you can't create a new thread to ask your question:P
