Clicky fans

Go to solution Solved by Fasauceome,

I returned to my PC and woke it up, the sound is no longer happening (even though I know which fan is the offending unit)

Oh well i guess, I'll get more in depth with the fix if it comes up again.

Slept my PC yesterday, turned it on today and was greeted by a rhythmic click of one of my Thermaltake Riing fans up against the front panel of my Vengeance C70 case. I took the panel off to see if there was any obvious obstruction, but I didn't see any blockage. I have noticed my fans seem a little wobbly, but I thought that was perhaps just a slight imperfection in the manufacturing. How long can I expect riing fans to last, and how could I know if mine need replacing?

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

fans with defects can last for years, but take that comment with a big grain of salt since it is entirely random how long it will last.
if you want to be sure and worry free. just get a new one.
but  my guess is that it could last a good bit, but i personally wouldn't dare it... i have the same with my corsair fan and im gonna replace it as soon as possible.
(just spent everything on pc parts so... yeah next month new fans :P)

Did you try doing a full shutdown and restart? Try a different fan header? Sometimes the power going into it will cause this.

With those fans, according to a retial website, they have a self lubricating system for the fan to stop it from making a noise/ceasing.

You've not seen any leakage in your PC have you?

Other than that, there is no wires hitting the fan or anything like that?

That's quite odd since removing the front panel removed the clicking sound. I don't think it's a power thing.

Definitely no wires. I'm certain it's hitting the front panel, because when I remove the panel while the fan is spinning, the noise stops.

Either the fans not screwed down all the way or bad case design.

Windows7ge could be right, try re-seating the screws and see if that helps. See if there is any case damage around where the fan is, could have been dented. If so you could work it back to the state it was originally.

Also see if the rubber anti-vibrate pads are still all in tact, if they're worn down for whatever reason it could be causing it.

Check and make sure that the front filter is correctly slotted into the tabs and isn't warped in a way that makes it hit the fan blades.
