Is the i5 2500k bottlenecking the system? I find that I have a slightly overpowered gpu for this system as a whole. What is my biggest issue with this build?

I dunno but this ram seems kinda old and slow, maybe it's this??? Can anyone else confirm please?

Yeah very true since its running only 666MHz, its very old.

we need to know your display resolution and is that a 8gb gtx1070? what cpu cooler?

the ram is fine @1333hz not sure about timings

It's an 8gb gtx 1070, i have stock cpu cooler, my display is 1920x1080

it's 1333mhz DDR3 (666x2 since it's dual channel) which is the base for this, it's not that old, not that fast either...

OP your 2500K will hold you back a fair bit in modern demanding games.

Also, that CPU is fairly old; it's like pairing a 980 Ti with it.

I would like to play BF1 but I cant because I need a better cpu, but games like Dead by daylight sometimes drop below 60 fps for me on lowest settings.

yes your 4 thread CPU is the issue.

Alright thanks, im thinking of buying a new motherboard that supports Ryzen 5 - 2600X (AM4) and able to oc it, therefore i will have to buy new rams if i buy a motherboard with ddr4 wich will likely be the case.

2500k isnt that bad, no harm getting a better cooler do some mild overclocks , this should reduce the fps drops and dips.

stock cooler isnt good for an i5, often overheat and case slow down, this may be the problem

also get a cooler campatible with new sockets, AM4 / 115x , so nothing is wasted

Problem with that is that my motherboard cant overclock it :/

Why does the 1070 show as 4 GB when you claim it's 8 GB?

I suspect your CPU is holding you back though, but it depends on what games you're playing and at what resolution and framerate.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

It's not that the 2500k is a bad chip, it's that the GTX 1070 is very powerful compared to GPUs of the 2500k's time, and demands in games have changed quite a bit. Unfortunately, even if OP were playing at 1440p, the GTX 1070 will be held back by the 2500k.

if you have to insist you think for yourself, i'm not going to believe you.

Never used it.  I would assume that is the problem though.  I find it's easiest to just know what parts are in your build than to rely on a program like that to scan it.

I get where you're coming from, but the computer itself already knows what's in it, or at least it should. Therefore i expected it to tell me the correct stuff, I'll investigate further

You can use GPU-Z for the GPU specifically and it'll give far more detailed (and accurate) information.  CPU-Z does the same thing for your CPU.  There's other tools that'll get the rest if you need but Speccy seems to have handled those alright.

Yeah here we go, looks like it was speccy... weird, thanks ^^

My plan is then to buy something like Gigabyte GA-AB350-Gaming 3 since it has B350 chipset, then an AMD Ryzen 5 - 2600X. Slap some ddr4 ram on there, 16gb most likely. Watercooling for the CPU and then overclock away!

It's not 1333 due to dual-channel (otherwise quad-channel builds would be 2666MHz). It's 1333MHz due to being double data rate RAM as opposed to older RAM that could only perform a single check or change per cycle.

I'm guessing the OP used Speccy. It's infamous for scaring folks who don't know better.

Ironic, only people who are, shall we say, less than enthusiasts would need something like that, but then it dumps so much info on you that you're right, those kind of people are likely to be put off by it :P It also clearly doesn't even do it for a good reason.  I see this often on posts from beginners, they don't know what information is or is not important and end up missing some things while going into way more detail than was needed on others.  Take the storage for example.  No one here would need to know more than "1 TB HDD", but it gives the exact model number.  CPU too - everyone knows 2000 series was sandy bridge, or if they don't they could check easily were it to become relevant information.  It's unfortunate that tools like this miss the mark so badly.  Their goal is to make this stuff simple and not scare people off but it doesn't help at all.

It’s, and I’m probably using this wrong, missing the forest for the trees.

It’s trying to give so much info that it misses specificity. It’d be better for these programs to return model numbers for things like storage since it gives us something to cross reference; however CPU and GPU should return family and line (Geforce 1080) and size (8GB). The DDR is acceptable as it covers even prehistoric builds that used plug-in CPU’s, but it should have an “effective” part that shows the actual speed that the DIMM runs at.
