Looking to buy a new gaming laptop. Have around 2k to spend. I know at this price point i can expect some pretty beefy setups as far as performance. Some people say thunderbolt 3 isn't important while others make it seem like a deal breaker. The same is said of gsync. How important are these two items and if I can only get one is one more important? A few devices I'm looking at are.

MSI GT63 TITAN-047 (i7-8750H, 16GB RAM, 256GB NVMe SSD + 1TB HDD, NVIDIA GTX 1070 8GB, 15.6" Full HD 120Hz 3ms, Windows 10 Pro) VR Ready Gaming Notebook https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BVGNY7C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_O4OSBbJZYSJTG

I like the idea of a thin and light but I don't want over heating. I'm upgrading from an asus that is rocking an old i7 with a geforce gtx 560m 2gb. So any of the ones i linked will blow me away im sure lol. I also like the bigger chasis like the predators because of that venting.

2k Usd. I'd like under 8lbs and since this will be my home system battery life doesn't matter. I can't really have a tower since i have 2 young kids that would destroy it. So my preference is a laptop.

All with i7 8750H and 1070 GPU:

MSI GT63 (from resellers)

MSI GE63/GE73

MSI GP63/GP73 with 120Hz TN

Acer Predator Helios 500

HP Omen 17t

Did you leave out the Asus because their cooling not as good?

Many of their models can't handle 1070 GPU due to limited cooling. 1060 is fine.

High end line like G series and GM501 (Zephyrus M) are fine with 1070 (GM501 is just barely)

I like the chasis of my current Asus. A thicker better vented kind but lessen the weight and I'm good. Lol i was looking at this model but i cant tell from the Amazon pictures if theres enough venting.

Do think if i were to get the 120hz Msi that in a year or so I'm going to kick myself because i didnt get a 144hz monitor?

GL series cannot handle 1070. Don't bother to get one with 1070

120Hz and 144Hz don't have much difference TBH

I have narrowed it down to a top 3 with a runner up.

ASUS G703GS-WS71 17.3" FHD 144Hz Intel i7-8750H NVIDIA GTX 1070 16GB DDR4 2666Mhz 1TB SSHD FireCuda Windows 10 ROG AURA RGB https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CBFZ2Q3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_40xVBb0HP56K7

I like the look of this laptop. It has gsync, thunderbolt 3 and probably the best display of the 3. But lacks an existing ssd which is an added cost.

MSI GT63 TITAN-047 (i7-8750H, 16GB RAM, 256GB NVMe SSD + 1TB HDD, NVIDIA GTX 1070 8GB, 15.6" Full HD 120Hz 3ms, Windows 10 Pro) VR Ready Gaming Notebook https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BVGNY7C/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_5GyVBb89ER433

This one looks promising but at the same price as the asus it lacks gsync, thunderbolt 3, I also think this one will have the worst display of the three. I like the 15" form factor. It also apparently comes with windows pro.

Acer Predator Helios 500 PH517-51-72NU Gaming Laptop, Intel Core i7-8750H, GeForce GTX 1070 Overclockable Graphics, 17.3" Full HD 144Hz G-Sync Display, 16GB DDR4, 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD, 1TB HDD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CTL2YRY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_DHyVBbETNFEM1

This is where I'm leaning the most. Gsync, thunderbolt 3, a really good display. It's weight is pretty low at about 8lbs for a 17" monitor. The zoned rgb lighting in the keyboard is kind of lame but definitely not a deal breaker. Also the price!

AS A RUNNER UP:

MSI GE63 Raider RGB-010 15.6" 120Hz 3ms Performance Gaming Laptop GTX 1070 8G i7-8750H (6 Cores) 16GB 256GB SSD + 1TB Per Key RGB KB, VR Ready, Metal Chassis, Windows 10 64 bit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BBCMKLW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_QTyVBb12DPGC7

I like this model but it lack thunderbolt 3, gsync. The rgb lighting is incredible on this thing and the price is decent.

While I am closer to a decision I cannot process all the information I have read about laptops in the recent weeks. I don't want to regret this purchase as I will be using this laptop anywhere between 5-10 years lol. Also a note on the Msi laptops they come with a bunch of promo stuff.

See this is my issue. Lol. Is gsync worth the money? Is thunderbolt 3? My thought on the rgb lighting is it will entertain me for ashort while and then ill set it to Seattle Seahawks colors and be done. So if I dont have per key its not going to kill me. Thats why i lean more towards the acer.

If you want gameplay without shuttering, get Gsync. If you want to save some battery life, don't get it

TB3 is nice to have but not necessary

TBH I'll go for the cheapest one since all of them are good
