without any circuit breakers in the way

So your running both adapters on the same circuit. Because being plugged directly in to a wall doesn't mean you dont have breakers in line. Most rooms are on a signal breaker, not all rooms are tied to the same breaker. So if the adapters are in separate rooms, then there is 2 breakers. There is a possibility that if the adapters are ran on two separate breakers that those breakers could be on separate phases in the panel. Which will cause performance issues as the signal has to travel out to the meter to get on the other phase.

@LukeSavenije made a good point, interference is a possibility. Remember power cables are not twisted pairs and are not shielded. Devices on Power cables can cause EMI, which screw with data connections. If you have any new items on the same circuit as the adapters that could cause an issue. Such as a Window Air conditioner which compressor I would say would cause interference on the line.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
