That gpu cant really drive 1440p at 165Hz, so if you don't plan on upgrading your gpu for a while thats a waste

Way too much money on the monitor over the rest of the pc. If you are just planning on modeling, not coloring, I can't imagine you will need accurate color scales, so get this: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/CwgPxr/dell-s2417dg-238-165hz-monitor-s2417dg or if you need  27", this: https://ca.pcpartpicker.com/product/BcTrxr/dell-monitor-s2716dg. Also, saving some money on that, you should sell you gpu and get a 1080 or 1070ti, because you aren't going to get 144fps on many games with a 1060.

while i can tell you that this monitor is awesome as i have it myself i have to agree with the other people here that you are spending too much on the monitor while the PC will not be able to drive all its glory.

im using a 980ti and its barely able to maintain 165FPS in most games and in just about all of them i have the details reduced to get some more FPS.

Also its freaking insane how much that 1060 costs in canada, i recently bought one for my wife and it was only 222€ and there was a free 250GB ADATA SSD included.

I would actually go intel because 3d modeling and gaming usually prefer single threaded performance.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Actually I am colouring (or texturing) onto the 3D model.  Many 3D games that are based on photorealism use the Physically Based Rendering (PBR) method to reflect real world shading which is the reason I'm going for an IPS panel.

I should also mention to you guys that Soul Calibur 6 is capped at 60 fps that's the standard that competitive gamers go by.

Well then theres no reason to get 165hz if you aren't going to use is, save $600 and get a 60hz panel that has better color accuracy

What about in terms of API.  Correct me if I'm wrong but doesn't Vulkan help increase the FPS for certain games in comparison to DX12 and DX11?

Edit: NVM forget what I've said.

  • 1 month later...

Thought I'll post an update.

As of Black Friday and Cyber Monday I've bought all the necessary components for my build.

The ones you'll probably disagree with me most on are the GTX 1060 graphics card and the Viewsonic XG2703-GS monitor.

I'll explain:

For the GTX 1060 that was months before Black Friday; it was on sale for around $400 so I decided to split the pay between my bro and I.

The Viewsonic XG2703-GS monitor sure I understand that there are many other games that can't run at 1440p with ultra settings; however, I do plan on getting either the GTX 1070ti or possibly the RTX series graphics card in the future.  The RTX GPU is not just for gaming but for 3D rendering if there's software support that takes advantage of the RTX cores.
