So I just got home from buying an HTC one for 29 bucks from bestbuy on a two year contract with sprint. So is there anything I shoul configure or download first off that is recommended with the HTC one like for example I cant find a flashlight so which one should I download and should I download a certain keyboard or something?

Also useful things to know like how to access recent/still open apps, and gestures and certain settings.

Also the mail app I have a @me.com email and it won't work when I try to use the app but I will try again

Its a keyboard app that I absolutely love personally :P I'd try the stock, try the trial, then decide.

I kept hitting the wrong keys on the stock as they weren't spaced enough and swift key solved all my problems, what can I download for flashlight and stuff I heard people say like power toggle and some other toggle thing that comes down with your notifications

I have power toggle, but I use it to keep track of battery percentage.

I own a One X+, so its different, but on your one I believe if you double-tap the home button it will display recent apps.

Try searching for the mail settings you require for me.com on the web (http://email.about.com/od/accessingmobilememail/f/What-Are-The-Mobileme-Mail-Me-Com-Pop-Settings.htm)

Here's some stuff I posted in another HTC One thread:

Games: ShadowGun: Deadzone, Dead Trigger 2, Simpsons: tapped out, Hill Climb Racing, Angry Birds: Star Wars, Minion Rush, Sonic Dash, Deadly Bullet, Temple Run 2

Apps: Google Chrome, Skype, Twitter, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, YouTube, Tapatalk (for forum browsing), Shazam(So you can identify music), Snapchat (if your friends have it), Steam (if you use steam), Battlelog(If you play Battlefield 3/4), Paypal (if you use Paypal), NVISION (tech news, awesome interface), UTorrent (if you feel like downloading torrents in your spare time), MX Player (If you want to watch videos in nearly any format with full hardware acceleration), PicsArt (for detailed photo editing), AndChat (if you use IRC), Soundcloud (if you're fine with streaming music, and love electronic/hiphop/house/dance/independent artists, you can follow channels like EDM.com and get new music everyday, all for free)

Just a tip when it comes to the Sense People app: When adding contacts, make it a Google contact, then you can link the contact with their facebook profile (there will be a chain button at the top of their contact so you can link) for caller ID and shizzle. Making it a google contact also means it will be backed up to the google servers and your google account.

Swiftkey also isn't needed, I personally love the Sense 5 keyboard more than any other third-party one. But that's your choice.

what exactly is rooting?

so since android is technically linux based being it is a linux kernel running in a Java VM, you still have commands that are linux. One of them being root access. Root access is where you can allow applications to right to the root directory in the /system of your phone. This basically allows for apps to change your phone in a way similar to admin command in windows. Rooting allows apps to change system files or write to the system. It's pretty nice since there are MANY more features and tweaks you can do to your phone by just rooting, not to only mention you then have the added ability to change roms. ROM's are system firmware which are typically modified version of AOSP with certain battery and performance tweaks at the least, a common one being Cyanogen. I use custom rom's because they allow for me the change the UI in a way I see fit and features that open source developers have created to name a few would be Halo from Paranoid Android, Split View from Omni ROM, and Kernel Tweaks from AOPK (which can actually be done with an app but I won't make this too complicated). You then also have the Ability to change out kernels when you root, so you get the added benifit of overclocking your phone also.

Should I use the lookout security thing that sprint puts on? Or do I have to end up paying for it or anything if anyone knows

Doesn't look like a bad app. Although most of those features Google supports itself now. I would leave it installed anyways.

Flashlight should be in your tools folder, you can move it to your homescreen or make a widget too.

IIRC there is some way you can activate it from the notifications bar, can't seem to find it now, possibly imagining it lol.
