intel optane with a hdd?

i was thinking about getting a intel optane to increase my boot time for windows and programs on my hdd will a intel optane do just that? austin evans put it in his personal rig so it must do so right?

Optane is dumb, just buy a regular 240GB SSD instead

intel optane 50$ ssd 150$ how does intel optane not increase speed on a hdd to ssd speed but youtubers use it?

You may have to sadly, Optane is really not a noticeable improvement for what you're after, it's someting that in my opinion complementes the SSD + HDD usual combo to speed up your gaming loads on the more affordable HDD.

 

As to accelerate the boot drive with windows and all you'll see rather diminishing results, I strongly advise on going through the hassle, you could potentially uninstall all your games, back up all your photos, videos, documents and so on in pen drives, leave the boot drive within the usual 240ish best cost per gb SSD's out there and clone the image to it, then boot from SSD, wipe out the HDD and put your stuff back in there.

 

May cost you and get you to work on it eh, at least you'll have the end result you're after.

austin evans uses it in his new build and was saying how it makes it faster but i just think ssds are expensive compared to the intel optane i mean i could get a 240 or 120 ssd but id rather get 500 or 1000

if i wanted publicity i would post my stuff constantly but i would get banned for doing so because you cant do that for some reason and its not giving him pubilicty when he has 3mill 1 sub wont change anything 1 sub to me would make me happy as for austin it doesnt change much

I use a 60gb SSD for boot and a few things and a 1tb HDD in my i5 3470 system for the price (when I bought that 60gb it was $32)

 

If you are going for an SSD yeah I would get a bigger one than 240 but depends your goal/budget - you will likely boot up windows in...20 seconds with an SSD..the transition from HDD to SSD booting and normal use is amazing.

whats the boot difference with optane+hdd compared to ssd i know the ssd is like 5 seconds but what about optane and hdd?

first you need to understand the basics:

 

optane isn't permanent storage, it works more like a cache for the hard drive so it all depends on what files will randomly be cached on it

an SSD is a fixed storage so you can put whatever you want on it and it'll still load fast

well i understand how it works its most commonly used programs on the optane but i just want to know the speed differnce will it still boot up just as fast or is it slower

there's no way to tell, you can't choose what files to cache manually, it might load important OS files or your dank memes folder
