what CPU should I get?

Go to solution Solved by Mao_Zedong,

I have decided to plan to get the 6300 and probably get the mobo I mentioned but I may get another mobo.

I have had some bottlenecks on my GPU. I have a gtx 660 and my CPU is a and phenom 9650 (2.3x4). I'm not sure if I should get an athlon 750k or an fx 6300. How much better will the 6300 be for me, and will it justify the price gain (I will need a new mono and ram anyways).

do you plan to overclock. if not go with the athlon

  I will probably overclock

Budget? Expected life cycle?

my budget is as low as I can without much bottlenecking and the wanted lifespan is three or more years preferable four or more.

CPU: AMD FX-6300 3.5GHz 6-Core Processor  ($109.99 @ Newegg)

Motherboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0 ATX AM3+ Motherboard  ($126.98 @ SuperBiiz)

Total: $236.97

that mobo is more expensive than I will probably get, I'm going for $100 or less.

Indeed. I was just trying to think long term incase you upgrade CPU or do a heavy OC. It's the cheapest good 990 board available.

Edit: the UD3 is currently listed at 124.

please don't just say one of them, give an explanation.

The 6300 will last you longer and since it's AM3+ you could upgrade later to something like an 8320 if you find that the 6300 is not enough. The Athlon should only be bought in cases of extreme budget restrictions.
