Ok, this is my build rn, https://pcpartpicker.com/user/thedemonspawn56/saved/4BPFt6 im definitely thinking about doubling the ram and get a gpu (duh, i just didnt have the budget for it at first).

At first, i wanted a gtx 1070ti, and now ive been going between a bunch of options, the 1070ti 1080ti or get all involved in rtx.

I want to game at 4k and do a bunch of vr.

Ive seen a few rtx 2080 ti benchmarks, and at 4k... Dammmnnnnnn, but i dunno if its worth $1200, any opinions?

Also, anything wrong with my build, or any other upgrades i need/sould want?

Also, i got the cpu for free through the intel giveaway!! And a bunch of the parts pretty cheap on sale, but they were all new parts, havent messed with used parts yet, bu i am SERIOUSLY thinking about getting a used gpu.

Any help is appreciated!

I would swap out the 8086K and go with the 8700K. Just overclock it yourself.

Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut > Arctic Silver.

Getting 16GB Ram is a good idea.

As for the gpu a 1080 ti will run 4K depending on the game/settings you want. There might be some cheap ones once the RTX becomes available.

if you're planning on overclocking that CPU, then i wouldn't recommend that motherboard.

also for 4K a 1080 Ti would be a minimum unless you're fine with dropping the graphics quality, even with a GTX 1080 Ti you would be dropping graphics quality, and ofc the 2080 Ti is not worth it, and i can't comment on the RTX features because they don't exist yet.

everything else is fine though.

What monitor will you be using this with?

I second...all of the above from @lee32uk.

Personally, I'm not a fan of buying a video card that will be outdated before its main feature, ray tracing, will be usable in games. Sure, there will be a select few games that may use it coming out, but game development takes years.

Game developers that will use it in the future have to wait until they see the cards and drivers and whatnot in order for them to program their game to do it. So they're starting that programming...now. It may change the entire architecture of the game, so it's likely that games coming out in the next 1-2 years aren't able to include ray tracing without major overhaul.

If you want to go for it for having the newest and shiniest and bestest, good for you. Personally, I don't have $1200 to drop on just a video card, and if I did, I have a thousand better investments I could make with it. 2080ti a terrible value, when you could run twin 1080ti's for that cost. Or a Titan. It's like a 70% increase in cost over a 1080ti for a 25% gain.

As a side note, anyone seen how a Titan stacks up against the 2080ti? It almost seems like reviewers have purposely not stacked them against each other...but I stopped looking for this days ago.

Intel i7 8700k | Asus ROG Strix Z370-I | NVidia RTX 2070 Super Reference | Corsair Vengeance Pro RGB 3600MHz x 32GB | Samsung 970 Evo 500GB NVMe | Samsung QVO 1TB SSD | Custom Loop | Corsair RMx 850w Gold | Phanteks Evolv iTX TG (modded) | Acer Predator XB1

The titan has the same price tag so idk why anyone would buy one over the 2080ti. Anyways of you want the absolute best performance and money isn't an issue then the 2080ti is a decent card. If you concerned about the cost then it likely isn't the card for you.
