With that you could swap out the FX-4130 with an 8320/8350 if you wanted and it would be great

If you want to pay a little more this is another excellent value choice that'll remain relevant for much longer

Again make sure to change the country for pricing in the top right corner of the page

You've got the wrong Motherboard mate, you need an AM3+ motherboard for that CPU.

Something like a:

Gigabyte GA-970A-DS3P

would suit you fine.

It's super hard to stay in budget with a $750 range in Australian money.

But this is as good as I think I can get it, note that it's about $100 over. http://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/Phillyphries/saved/3lsu

Note that I picked the FX 4300 instead because of the lower power it uses, which would help it run cooler.

Alternatively, you could just go the APU route in which it does come with a decent integrated GPU, though not powerful, it should still run your games in low-med settings fine.

This fits right in your budget at $725 AUS http://au.pcpartpicker.com/user/Phillyphries/saved/3lsE

You can put in a graphics card anytime you get the money to, but for now that should be adequate to play your games

Probably medium to high for those games. I believe the R9 270x can run Battlefield on ULTRA. I have a 7790 in one of my machines at home which is similar to the R7 260x, and it does pretty well actually.

Well first off if you already have some sort of family PC you can use the operating system off of that.
As far as the CPU and motherboard go, if you're getting an FX based CPU and an AM3+ motherboard make sure to grab a Piledriver six core, so an FX 6300 or an FX 6350.

If you cannot afford a six core AMD CPU you're much better off with AMD's other platform, which is FM2+ because unlike AM3+ AMD is going to release two new generations of APUs for FM2+ Kaveri & Carrizo, coming out this month and next year while AM3+ will not see any CPU updates so for future upgradability FM2+ is going to be the best option.

You also do not need a DVD reader or writer, optical media is completely dead.

True, you can also salvage optical drives as well. But if he has a family computer I doubt he's going to take the OS off the PC just to use it on his own..

I would just rip the installation DVD onto a flash drive and boot off from it if he has a family pc in the house
