He said that he doesn't want wired because the wire always gets broken. This same problem happened to my old Headset, which is why I got a wireless one.

I have a logitech G930, and it has awesome sound quality imo. It retails for around $140, but it has alot of features including a switch to switch between stereo quality sound and adobe digital 7.1 surround, customizable G-keys that can be used for voice changing, and a detachable cord. What about the Steel Series Siberia V2. In my opinion get a really solid headset and then if you have a Sound Card or even your Onboard have it simulate it for you. I know that people will pair this headset with the ASTRO mixamp to get that simulated surround sound.

here is some info for you its 129 dollars. That is of course if you decide that you would like to have a amp due the sound processing for you. You would still need to purchase a optical S/PDIF to plug in somewhere to get optimal sound.

+1 for all this, except the Q701's need to amped, this is not debatable.

dope! I went thinking about headphones with detachable cords and forgot all about that!

More like he'll need an O2 for that headphone or specifically a low output impedance, low noise amplifier.

A Schiit Magni should do the job, I've tried my 702's with an O2 as well, and it was adequate.

Yes, a Magni would fit the bill, although you'll have to turn down the volume quite a bit on your computer since the AKGs are only a 68 Ohm headphone and the Magni's gain is a whopping 6x. My pair of 702s get plenty loud on just the 1x setting at about 12 O'Clock, but I've noticed I must like to listen to music at much quieter levels than most people.
