I'm going to be ordering the parts for my first gaming PC build in a week and I'm still unsure. Should I get the i7 or i5? I'm going to use this mostly for gaming, and some light programming and streaming. Is the i7 worth the extra $100? Here are my 2 parts lists:

i7:    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/QTNqw6

i5:    https://pcpartpicker.com/list/Dyn76s

I mean, not really. It will obviously hold up longer than the i5 but not for much longer. If you can spend the extra $100, why not, but if you are money conscious, its not worth it, imo.

8700k will be my choice. Streaming games with an 8600k can be depressing if you aim to hit high frame rates yourself at the same time.

oh, wait yea ^, i didnt read the streaming part; i5's are quite bad at streaming, especially in higher qualities, in which they suck booty.

Compiling big programs loves a heavily threaded CPU, so the i7 will be noticeably better. A friend of mine does programming on his home computer with an 8 core, and his work computer with a 12 core, and he says there's a huge difference.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

PSU tier list

How many watts do I need?

If you really want to use it to stream games then you should get Ryzen instead if you are looking for cheaper overall cost or keep with the i7 8700K

If you just want to game then go for the i5, also if you won't be overclocking to see the performance improvement then you should get the i5-8400. the 8400 will still turbo up to 4.0GHz so you shouldn't worry much for performance. Also for that turbo i suggest throw in a Hyper 212 Evo and you are done
