I never saw the post Linus was talking about during the WAN Show tonight, but based on his description, I have seen many like them in my life.

I used to be a fairly heavy contributor to a very large camera forum.  I posted about 50 times a week.  I am the kind of guy who is not afraid of others' opinions or views, and I like to try to get discussions going ("for you - a or b?  Why?" Then followup questions)

The environment in the brand forum I mostly posted in was bad, and got worse.  It got so caustic that I began to notice it affecting my mood, believe it or not.  I am opinionated.  I am not an idiot.  I do not know everything.  I hope other can recognize the same things within themselves. I am also no angel, but I do my level best.

So, what happened is that I chose to leave; I had to for my own sanity.  Now, I almost never go back.  The antagonists appear to be gone, or have changed their user ids.  I never post or contribute, which I used to really enjoy.

Now the site never gets my views or clicks on their ads.  I don't tell friends about the answers that used to be found there. And it even soured me on the brand.  Why would I want to be associated with people who use product and behave like that, that showed such disrespect?

I like it here.  People provide answers to my questions, and more than just one answer.  I am quickly getting to know enough were I hope to be of similar value to others.

So, I am glad Linus brought that issue up. Neither he or Slick would know me if I hit them with a dead WD Green drive (I have 4) on the street, but I feel like a small part of a friendly community. And I appreciate them investing in that idea the way they have.

I hope that continues.  I will contribute to that the best way I can.

Chad

I don't find it that much of an issue but some people that's just who they are and a big lack of thinking comes into play, I like to argue my side of the point while maintaining a friendly and helpful attitude, sure I could probably do my job a little better but we all make mistakes and do dumb things that we can't take back especially on the internet, that makes us who we are and there is nothing we can do now but improve

Hope I could help!

I think the post is gone.  I could not find it during the stream.

But, I think at least that part of the show is worth watching when the archive gets posted on youtube.

But yeah, he called out a group of buttheads (not by name)

He was reffering to a guy that posted in the audio forum about being pleased with improved sound performace after buying a Xonar DG Soundcard, I think.

A number of people shot him down about his stupid purchase, because of what they'd watched on Logan's video about soundcards. They jumped on him because they saw the word soundcard, and obviously logan told them soundcards are bad. So obviously they had to tell the guy that bought a soundcard he was dumb, because logan said soundcards are dumb.

I repsect the fact Linus doesn't suffer fools. As he pointed out, they didn't take account of any context whatsoever.

EDIT: I believe this is the thread: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/94249-i-just-got-my-first-sound-card/

agreed, although i added something along the lines of personally liking a DAC/AMP over a soundcard,

everyone else flamed that to oblivion because it is popular not necessarily right. The behavior that i

hate the most is ignorance, the fact that everyone on the thread flipped shit on him for getting a soundcard

just because Logan's video came out around that time and i can bet that a good majority haven't blind

tested a soundcard vs. a DAC.

If a person did then i think some constructive criticizem works nicely but not the flaming that went on with that thread.

I think if mods were more proactive in deleting shitposts/text memes in posts then the forum would improve a great deal. Also, you might as rename "off topic" to shitpost central.

Just because its off topic why does the post quality go down so much?

Also, all internet communities start to change and turn when they get more popular. Look how good 4chan was before all the leftist tumblr/reddit/imgur users started going there. Look how much better the smaller subreddits are compared to big ones.

Dude i just read through that thread and i am really sorry those people just attacked you. You got a Xonar DG, its a good card for the price, and you're happy because it does what you wanted it to do. Good on you man. Hell it would've been the card i wouldve bought if i didnt get a hook up on a Creative ZxR.

To the people that said it has no difference, have you tried plugging in something like a DT 990 Pro 250/600 Ohm into an on board vs a sound Card, the difference is day and night. I plug those headphones into my phone or the Recon 3D USB sound card and i have to crank it up to get decent volume, but then the quality of the sound isnt even that great vs plugging it into my ZxR. I think most of them get a $50 headphone and pair it with a $200+ sound card. To actaully notice a difference, both ends have to be good. Pairing a $30 headphone with a $200+ soundcard is as useless as getting a $1500 headphone with 250/600 ohm impedance and plugging that into your phone.

On a side note im glad you got a Xonar DG. If you decide to get higher impedance headphones (like the AKG Q701/K701 or to some extent the same Beyerdynamics im running) you would have no issue with volume with that sound card :)
