7600k is not really an upgrade, get the 7700k, or if the budget allows get a i5 8400 and a new motherboard.

EDIT: Your current motherboard is crap anyways, so if you wanted a 7700k you would need to get a new motherboard too, so at that point just get an i5 8400 and a b360 motherboard.

I only see your reply if you @ me.

i would get the 7700k and overclock to 4.6 or 4.8 over clocking is easier than it seems and youll get great performance from it

He would need another motherboard to do that

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

80 degrees is safe but maybe you can spare a little extra and get a cooler that's better than a stock Intel heat sink. Cryorig C7 is nice and small, and gets the job done, or the H7, sometimes cheaper and also very easy to install.

Just buy a i5 8400 and a new motherboard, if you wanted to fully use your 7700k you would need to buy a new motherboard anyways, the 7700k is not an big upgrade at all if you can't overclock it.

It is a 4core like the i5 6400 you have currently, while the 8400 is a 6 core.

7700k has better base and boost speeds than 7700. It's a 4 core but it's hyperthreaded, giving 8 threads. Should make it better than the 8400.

The 7700k in my country is still much more expensive than the 8400, so at that point the 8400 is a much more logical upgrade, especially because he needs a new motherboard anyways.

The hyperthreading adds about 25% performance, so i would rather get a 6c/6t over a 4c/8t.

He doesn't need a new motherboard to add the CPU, just a BIOS update. On top of that, the base frequency of the 7700k is 4.2, and the single core boost of the 8400 is a mere 4.0, so not only out of the box is the 7700k running faster, but with only one generation down on the same manufacturing process, it wins in every scenario.

Also, we don't know OP's region. Getting a used 7700k from eBay could be pricey, but there are local used options, and also the cost of a new motherboard would make it a wash. There's also the even cheaper 6700k, which would still be better.

i have deepcool gammaxx 200t atm and i dont think its good enough

i have a few option  from what i see or to take a i7 7700k (450$) or a i5 7600k( 300$) or a i7 6700k (350$) and a cooler (70$ a good one) and not change the mother board

or to get the i5 8400(280$) or i5 8600 (300$) and a new MB (200$)

so in conclusion both upgrades it cost me aprox 500 $

here's what you should look for:

i7 6700k on eBay, or i7 7700k on eBay, and keep using your deepcool gammax because it's perfectly suitable. Spend around $250 instead.

The i5 8400 does about the same performance as the 7700k when both at stock clocks so it would be a wash in terms of performance. The i5 might actually be cheaper if you take into account the required cooler for the 7700k.

Is that usa dollars or worthless dollars(australian)?

If US dollars you should be able to get a new MB for 100$ and a i5 8400 for 280, so total would be 380$, so much cheaper than the 7700k.

If he can find it at those prices then that is great choice also. But i would maybe get 7700 instead of the K version, less change to get a chip that has been overvolted to the moon.

well not like warranty is expected from eBay, and 7700 is nice but the frequencies aren't nearly as good. Besides, if it's a bum chip it can be sent back, eBay is purchase protected.

So what are used options for you online? if it's impossible to find a used i7 under $300 then it's probably not worth it, and upgrading to another i5 won't feel like much, except maybe the 7600 because of the clock speed jump

i have the money to buy the i7 7700k but i dont want to spend that  amount of money for something that dosent fell so much of a difference

But if i buy the i7 7700k with 450$ i have a buyer for my cpu and i get around 140 $ so the difference is 300$ like you said but new one insted of used one :)

That could be good but $450 is steep for that CPU. can you bargain down to $400? also, compare it against buying used online, since if they're the same price, it's better to get used.
