How does one tell if your ECC RAM is Buffered, unbuffered, and/or registered?
The sticker on my current RAM says:
4GB 2Rx8 PC3L - 10600E - 9 - 11 - E3
HMT351U7CFRBA - H9 T0 AB

btw, you have no idea how hard it was to read a sideways RAM sticker without accidentally freezing the PC and still being able to read it.

I have a 2GB stick of ECC memory, the sticker reads:

2GB 2Rx8 PC3-10600R-9-10-B0

Compared to a normal stick of memory:

1GB 1Rx8 PC3-8500U-7-00-A0

The R or U after the first number following PC3(that would be 10600R for example) signifies that the memory is registered. All ECC memory will have an R, all non-ECC memory will have a U. We call those RDIMMs and UDIMMs, respectively. The U signifies unregistered memory, the R signifies registered memory. The E on 10600E shown on your sticker is another way to show that a DIMM is ECC.

As far as buffered or unbuffered goes, all ECC memory is buffered, all non-ECC memory is unbuffered.

The first half of that isn't quite true. My server has 128GB of unbuffered ECC. Server manuals even tell you how much of which RAM type you can use. ECC UDIMM limit 128GB, ECC RDIMM limit 512GB. That's my motherboards specs.

The 2nd half may be true. I've never seen buffered non-ECC memory.

Interesting. My bad, I guess.

Not true. Not all ECC memory have the extra pins associated, and noted, with buffering or being registered.

You see, that's where the problem lies:
phone?
I don't have one.
