Music and Audio Editing

  Hi,

Let me start off saying I am a gigging musician with no recording under my belt as of now. I currently have an i7 3770k and GTX 660ti (on-board audio). I would like to build a dedicated music and audio editing PC. What parts would you recommend? I have a pair of very flat EQ headphones (over ear) and a good mic for recording voice, guitar and piano. I am unsure of the power needed to render music in high quality and high bit rate files. Is a USB DAC needed good audio (rather than on-board audio). I have a $700 USD budget.

Thanks,

Philosophy

What headphones/microphone do you have? If they are good (ATH-M50 and above/Blue Snowbal and above), then just put your cash to a USB DAC (I really like the O2/ODAC from @MayflowerElectronics but something like a FiiO E10 is much more reasonable) and to some good software.

He'll actually need something with ASIO drivers. The ODAC doesn't have one. I think Logan uses a Roland something or other.

As for the actual PC, just get an i3 or 8320 and an 128gb SSD with a large 2-4gb HDD. The rest of the other parts don't really matter.

Doh' I guess I can't read tonight, shame on me. Just need a SSD and a big HDD.

Both work, If I can use new parts for a decent PC for under $700 that would be the best idea. I though I should say the reason I MAY have the 3770k to spare is because I am upgrading to Extreme Edition Intel when i get the chance.

COP's aren't't a flat frequency response. Something like a DT880 or AD700x will have a more flat response.

Ok, Thanks for the info! :D

COP's are closed so the DT770's would suit you better if closed back is your cup of tea.

Nope. They're the last thing you want to use for recording.

Thought so, I got them early last year. I've yet to use them.
