Hey!

I thought I would ask here, since I'm kind of out of the loop on this stuff and I'm trying to do something new.

I'm a digital artist so far, not professional or anything, just hobby, and after seeing people on youtube animate, I kind of want to do that too.

I tried Adobe programs, however, that was really confusing and I have no basis in it, so completely lost at what anything is or how to do anything. Is there some animating programs that are a bit simpler for animating sakes? Mostly hobby and to start at something and eventually grow and get better at it.

thanks for your time!

You could try out some stuff in Pencil2D or perhaps OpenToonz, but you should consider working alongside some basic tutorials because most animation programs have the same basis.

You draw a picture every frame (usually you would either work at 24 or 30 fps, perhaps 12fps on lower action animation or 60fps if you have too much time on your hands :P )

Of course animation is just an abstraction of how stuff moves in real life. You can't make a walk cycle, without knowing how something walks (whether that be human or an animal).

There is a good app to make cartoons. Its name is FlipaClip and it allows creating cartoons using frame-by-frame animation. If you have a stylus for tablet drawing this app is what you need to start with before you begin using serious animation services. Here is the article with the description of FlipaClip app. Hope it will come in handy.
