Hey guys. :)

About five years ago i build my first "gaming" pc.

it was made with:

- corsair obsidian 750d (the plan was to take a full tower so when the upgrading day comes any component will fit in)

-Maximus vi hero. (same plan here so i can have this motherboard for a long time)

-2x4gb ram corsair vengeance

-intel i5-4670k 3.40Ghz

-r9 270/80/90.  (cant remember witch)  / rog geforce 180

-ssd and hhd

Welp that was my rig.. At first.. I felt really good and happy that i build it.

so like two years ago my brother build his pc, he had more money so he builded a better one. One year later he comes to me and tells me he isn't gaming so much any more. And if i wanna swap GPU's... Games got better and my GPU was still the same.. I knew soon im gonna have to upgrade my GPU... So we swapped.... Now i have ROG geforce 1080.  And as beafore games are still getting better or at least more demanding... I know 8gb is not eanuf these days so im planing on 16gb.. I dont wanna over kill it...

and now my processor i know i can overclock it and get more juice from it... But will it be as good to fit with 1080?

i was planning to buy a new processor i7 but i dont know which version i dont wanna have bottleneck like i have now. So what do you guys say which i7?

Wow i really typed there haha

Welp overall how to get rid of bottleneck.. And i know that i have ddr3.. is ddr4 that more better that would be replacing my Motherboard for a new ddr4 smart move? Or just buy high end ddr3 stuff and its atill gonna be good..

You will not notice the difference between DDR3 and DDR4 if everything else stays the same. Plus as you mentioned, it'd be a lot of cash to upgrade just for DDR4.

As far as the video card, if you are satisfied with the performance, don't change anything. If you need it, check the CPU support for your mobo and get the best one you can for the cash you are willing to spend.

NOTE: I no longer frequent this site. If you really need help, PM/DM me and my e.mail will alert me.

A 4790k is the best CPU you can get for your platform. You should make sure it's properly cooled, and that maximus board will sure be able to overclock the hell out of it.

I WILL find your ITX build thread, and I WILL recommend the SIlverstone Sugo SG13B

Primary PC:

i7 8086k - EVGA Z370 Classified K - G.Skill Trident Z RGB - WD SN750 - Jedi Order Titan Xp - Hyper 212 Black (with RGB Riing flair) - EVGA G3 650W - dual booting Windows 11 and Fedora Linux - Black and green theme, Razer brainwashed me.

Draws 400 watts under max load, for reference.

Ye games like battlefield are hitting to hard on my processor and ram and i get the red icons on the right side of the screen.

I've noticed people commenting on shortcomings with battlefield, specifically with old i5 processors. Do you multitask with anything like livestreaming or web browsing while you game? A core i7 4770k or 4790k would help you run more programs in the background, which is probably due to battlefield saturating CPU cores really well. 8GB of ddr3 is also a little lacking, so 2 more 4gb sticks should help. ideally you get the same kind to be sure they're compatible.

No, when playing gta v or bf1 or any other high demand game i dont multi task...

That sounds nice but i dont know really much about overclocking i know its made and stuff but not really when is eanuf that doesn't damage the components and i am abit scared of doing that.

plus later on ill need a tip for a good processor fen.

Battlefield loves cores/threads and RAM. @fasauceome is correct, another 8GB of RAM would go a long way and a 4770k/4790k would kill any bottleneck for the foreseeable future, especially if you plan on running BF5 when it comes out.

If you do go for an i7 make sure you invest in a decent cooler to maximize your performance, OC'ing Haswell is the key to longevity.

The New Machine: Intel 11700K / Strix Z590-A WIFI II / Patriot Viper Steel 4400MHz 2x8GB / Gigabyte RTX 3080 Gaming OC w/ Bykski WB / x4 1TB SSDs (x2 M.2, x2 2.5) / Corsair 5000D Airflow White / EVGA G6 1000W / Custom Loop CPU & GPU

The Rainbow X58: i7 975 Extreme Edition @4.2GHz, Asus Sabertooth X58, 6x2GB Mushkin Redline DDR3-1600 @2000MHz, SP 256GB Gen3 M.2 w/ Sabrent M.2 to PCI-E, Inno3D GTX 580 x2 SLI w/ Heatkiller waterblocks, Custom loop in NZXT Phantom White, Corsair XR7 360 rad hanging off the rear end, 360 slim rad up top. RGB everywhere.

There are a lot of overclocking guides on youtube, and with your maximus board, a super popular motherboard, you'll be able to find a guide that suits you very easily. There will also be recommendations for CPU coolers, and there are subforums here on linus tech tips that discuss air and water cooling info, you should read them.

They can't upgrade to DDR4 anyways without a CPU+mobo upgrade.

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
