So I have a problem with my computer it wont wake from sleep mode, and wont shut down through the OS (pressing shut down). The fans continue to spin and wont start.

Previously this computer used those same functions perfectly fine.

I had just posted this to the windows part of the forum and was told to bring it to the troubleshooting section.

I have already set the Fast boot setting to off and hard reset is the only way to start up the computer even after press shutdown in windows.

Generally when just clicking shutdown in W10 (i assume you use W10). It goes into something called a hibernated shutdown, where it still saves whatever you had open in the OS.

Try right clicking the windows button on the bottom left hand corner, shutdown or signout, and hit shutdown.

I have had this many times. I will include the text for a bat file to help you trouble shoot in a min.

however first you need to run DDU and uninstall the GPU drivers. This is 99% of the time caused by those not working right. than download the newest one after a reboot and install.

From what he is saying here, he is still able to access the computer by doing a hard reset...

OP, you can also try checking your power options and make sure your buttons are set up correctly.

powercfg -hibernate off

rundll32.exe powrprof.dll,SetSuspendState 0,1,0
pause

above is to turn off hibernation and put the pc to sleep.

below is to find out what woke up ur pc. this should also be the device with a issue not allowing your pc to sleep or turn off.

powercfg -lastwake
pause
powercfg -devicequery wake_armed
pause

Lastly go to ur power profile and be sure the pc can sleep when video share is on. should be in the advance link.

Yes, doing a hard reset only, and he said the power button won't shut the computer down.

If the computer won't wake form sleep you can't click the start menu and click shut down in windows.

What do you not understand?

Googling, Microsoft says to try this:

a. Type troubleshooting in the search box on taskbar.
b. Click troubleshooting in the search results.
c. Click "View all" and then click "Power".
d. Click "Next" and follow on-screen instructions.

Also if you have an old Printer, delete it and its driver. See what happens.

What happens in safe mode? Does it shutdown?

@STRESSMASTERI've cleared the cmos and used ddu, then reinstalled gpu drivers, yet the problem still presists

I've also noticed that the when I shut it down a light hum goes away I assume that's my hard drive, what's weird is that after a few seconds the hard drive spins back up
