Warranty replacement, which would you choose?

Hey Guys and Gals,

 

Under an insurance claim I have been offered two PC'S and would like personal opinion on which one?

 

Option 1:

• AMD Ryzen 7 2700X Eight-Core Processor with Wraith Prism RGB Cooler

• Samsung 970 EVO 250GB NVME M.2 SSD

I will be using the pc mainly for gaming on a 24" 1080p 144hz monitor.

 

My instinct is option 2 but would like your thoughts.

They're fairly well balanced and competitive systems.

 

Personally, I would take option 1 for the 1080 and extra cores.

The first one is nice, 2700X + GTX 1080 vs 8700K + GTX 1070.

I would agree here.

 

The 1080 is probably going to make a bigger difference than the slower perf on Ryzen.

2700X is the better CPU for multithread, but not far off the 8700K for single core. Single core matters more in games so go Intel. For heavy multitasking or VM's go AMD. Both are well matched and i think the 8700 is a better overclocker if that's your thing.

Consider that the 2700X comes with a 1080 vs a 1070 on the Intel system.

 

Without having benchmarked both systems, I'd assume gaming performance balances out as a wash (similar performance on both).

 

Because of that, the extra cores of the Ryzen will likely be more useful for non-gaming tasks.

You should bench the system in some benchmarks and games when you get it, and post the results for us to see.

I did a cheeky thing and asked the company would they be able to upgrade the 1070 for a 1080 on the intel build, they responded with this as a third option:

 

• 8th Generation Intel® Core i5 8600K 3.6GHz Six Core Processor

• 1TB 3.5" SATA Hard Drive
• 240GB NVME SSD
• NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 8GB GDDR5
• Fractal Design Meshify C Tempered Glass ATX Case
• No Optical Drive
• Novatech 500Watt Non Modular PSU
• Gigabyte H310M S2H H310 Motherboard
• Coolermaster Hyper 212 EVO CPU Cooler
• 300Mbps 802.11n Wireless-N PCIe Adapter

So based on that which of the 3 would you now choose?

Scratch that, not overly pleased with that build as the quality of the parts isn't as good so gonna stick with the ryzen.

Frankly the third option seems worse than both of the other options. 

 

Why would one choose it over the others?

 

Anyway, I would personally still choose the Ryzen option, since it’s the only one with a GTX 1080.

I would also sell that WIFI card once you get it. It’s an older model - Wireless N, so it doesn’t support the latest AC spec. If you don’t need wifi at all, then just sell it and use the money how you wish. 

 

If you do need wifi, sell it and upgrade to an AC card.
