Asus strix rx580 crossfire

So I have an Asus strix rx580 8gb

I'm looking to crossfire it with another one but to keep costs down I see Asus do a Asus strix rx580 4gb is it possible to dual the same model card but with half the video memory?

How will it affect the 8gb?

Will it benefit?

Is it pointless dualing a 4gb with my 8gb even though it's the same card?

Will it reduce the 8gbs cards performance?

Since Xfire works differently than SLI, I'd imagine it would work fine. However, SLI support is pretty poor these days. I'd imagine Xfire support is even worse. You're likely to only see probably around 50-70% improvement at the most in the games that have the best scaling. In games that have poor Xfire support, do not be surprised if your framerates worsen.

Both cards will perform like a 4GB card, that's it.

 

Ill-advised to do this though, the one-is-better-than-two rule holds true until there are no faster GPUs available.

sell your card and buy a more powerful one instead with the money.

This is why I'm debating so hard whether I really want that second 1080 or I should sell for a 1080 Ti. I'll probably end up waiting for whatever comes after the 20 series anyways
