This may seem like a stupid question but I have 0 experience with them. Would adding a 300mb network card boost the download speed of that particular pc. Or will it only go as far as the download speed of the internet that you pay for. Sorry for the cringe haha :)

it will only go as fast as the internet you pay for.

Boy are you ingenious xD

First, are you referring to wifi or ethernet (wired)?  300mb is wireless N speed I believe, and I think wired nics only come in the standard 10/100/1000/10G variety.

If wired, Intel Gigabit Nics are not only usually more reliable, but are known to get slightly better ping as well (I have observed this myself).  I'm not sure if that last part is due to better hardware, driver optimization, or both.

If wireless, as vascobrissos14 it will still improve local network speeds.  If you can one that has removable antennas, I would suggest buying better ones, especially if there are walls in between your computer and the wireless access point.  Better antennas will give you better latency and throughput, although again, internet wise you'll still be bottlenecked (not sure if that word applies here) by the latency and speed that your ISP provides to you.

Cool, thank you for the information. :)
