TN or IPS on a 1440 display?

Craiger1987

Well, finished up my build for my new PC (Ryzen 5 2600, 1070ti and 16gig DDR4) And am looking to go from my Asus 1080p 75htz monitor to a good 1440 display. I’m currently looking at (but also would like suggestions if you think something is better) the Asus PG278QR and the PG279Q. As I understand it the major difference between these two is one is TN and the other is IPS. I hear the IPS is a better panel but I’ve also heard that there is glow and backlight bleed issues. I play with the lights off and although I do play bright games like PUBG, Battlefield, Kingdom Come etc, I also play dark games like Elite Dangerous. Given that am I likely to have issues with an IPS display and be better off going for the ole TN or am I worrying too much about the IPS?

IPS of course. Just that colour shift (especially noticeable in bigger monitors) kicks TN off the ring

You're worrying to much about backlight issues. In normal usage, you likely won't notice whereas the worse viewing angles with TN will be hard to avoid on a large 27" display.

If you ever need help with a build, read the following before posting: http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/3061-build-plan-thread-recommendations-please-read-before-posting/

Personally, I like the appearance of IPS much better.  It's the colors and viewing angles.  Even with the glow and bleed, I choose IPS.

Okay, sounds like the PG279Q is the way to go then, unless there is a similar monitor by another manuf that may be better than the Asus.

I was looking for 24” as well but it seems that decent 1440 monitors don’t get under 27”
