Hi guys, I recently "scrapyarded" a 200GB SSD, the problem is... It's SAS. Therefore, i can't install on my motherboard (Gigabyte B360M D2V), because it does not have a SAS controller built-in. So, i can't just buy ad adapter like this, because it won't work.

The SSD is a Samsung 6ER2000/0G3, this one.

The connector on the drive is a SAS (obv) but i don't know the type (SFF 8484, 8482... I think it might be 8482, but im not sure), and i need a (possibly cheap) way to connect it to my desktop pc... I got the ssd for free, and i want to use it. I was looking on Ebay for some PCI-E to SAS cards, but i don't know which one should i take, and what cable should i use for it...

For example, will this one work? I just have one drive, so i don't want a RAID setup.

I'm totally new to SAS / Server grade storage, so please help me.

From what I could find,

You could use that controller, tho I would suggest getting a 6gb/s bandwidth one, since, again, from what I could fin you drive will utilise it.

This one

Also, you will need a SFF 8087 to 8484 to connect from that controller to the drive. But that should be it.

This one

Consider: If you use this as boot drive, you might need the drivers to install your OS on it as windows might not recognize the drive.

Oh thank you SO MUCH for your answer. This might be a boot drive, because there's a possibility i'll use this for my sister's build (WIP). In that case, i'll searh for the drivers.

By the way, it's not an 8484 as far as i can see, it's a 8482 port (it has 29 pins and the pictures i found online match). I'm planning to spend VERY little money, because it would be simpler to buy a SATA drive and call it a day, so i think i'll buy this one, even if it has only a 3Gb/s bandwidth. The connector on the board is an 8087 right? In that case, i'll just need an 8087 male to 8482 female?

Thanks in advance.

Go with a 6Gbps controller, don't skimp on that. You'll nearly half the speed of the SSD that way. The cheapest solution is a Dell Perc H310. You can even crossflash it to run as a HBA, so just a dumb disk controller. They're about $35-40 on eBay. Older cards like that LSI 1068E based card don't support UEFI systems, so you'll have to make sure the board it goes into supports operating in Legacy/CSM mode and you boot your Windows install in that mode as well.
