Is a 1080 Ti still good for 1080p high refresh rate gaming?

Hey all

ive found a good deal for a 1080 Ti STRIX for £535 used but in mint condition 

I was thinking about getting this over the 2080 Ti as that is double the price 

I am running an Asus XB272 240Hz monitor.

will this card be good considering how pricey the Turing cards are

AAA titles 240 FPS? no..

AAA titles 100-150 FPS? yes

What games are you going to be playing?

I have g sync so I’m not too worrried about matching the 240FPS exactly. I would like 100+ Minimum

100 FPS minimum for sure  for example Witcher 3 at 1080P without hairworks gets 140-150 FPS, and that's a demanding title even to todays standards.

 

rest of the games you're probably gonna see 200+ FPS if you have a good CPU to achieve that.

yeah you'll be way above 150 FPS with those titles, GTA V is very easy to run, same with Battlefield and COD

 

not sure about PUBG though, it's very unoptimized

rest of the games you're probably gonna see 200+ FPS if you have a good CPU to achieve that.

I got a 1950X for £500 new on eBay as I am building a workstation for uni after my 980 Ti in my X99 system blew up (crappy reference design) 

i jsve OCd it to 4GHz on all cores and it maxes out at 60c which is good

I kind of expected that. Also, it really seems like you don't have a budget based on your balls to the walls build.  I would look up some benchmarks to see if the card will satisfy your needs at the settings you want. A rtx 2080 will outperform a gtx 1080 ti but we don't know how much and it could cost much more once benchmarks release and everyone wants to buy the card and once that sells out everyone will buy out the old cards. So if you are satisfied with the fps it will give you go for it but you could feel regretful either way. I am running a 2200G so I am really not the one dealing with this stuff sooooo

1950X is not suited for high FPS gaming, so you're most likely to get bottlenecked if you want more than 120 or 140 for example

 

and also those games i mentioned that you'll get above 150 FPS, that's assuming you wont use MSAA, if you're gonna use 8X or 4X then yeah you're gonna drop down to around a 100 FPS.

I had my X99 rig for 4 years. Decided to upgrade as my 980 Ti blew up thanks to faulty memory inductors so I didn’t want to take any chances. 

I got CPU and mobo brand new half price on auction from eBay so that’s why I got threadripper

Sorry to hear that. It does end up as a "It depends" kind of deal though.

Just pitching in, I have 980ti with 8700k. 70-80+ FPS in any game 1080p, 100 is a bit above average for me (120Hz monitor here).

1080ti should be 100% good in terms of surpassing 100FPS mark for any game 1080p
