Hi

Recently my old netgear extender has live a short life with issues of cutting out and issues connecting to my modem.

So I've come to the conclusion I need to upgrade. So far having been looking at getting the " ASUS RT-AC88U Dual Band AC3100 " primarily for the additional ethernet ports and to improve the dead zone in my house.

But I'm concerned that $400 AU price tag is over kill for my small 19sqm home.

I also want to be able to connect all the following wifi devices:

2x Google home minis

2x Smart Phones

1x Tablet

My primary uses are streaming netflicks 1080p, my Blu ray library on my Plex server and online gaming.

So any help or buying tips would be great.

Cheers

Asus makes pretty good routers from everything I've seen about them.

The router may be slightly overkill for a smaller home, but your future self will thank you if you ever move to a bigger home.

TPLink routers are cheap and very durable, i've used mine for 8 years now.

Got a new optical fiber router from my isp, and the tplink now become a wifi extender for the whole house.

Yes this is overkill, 19sqm is very small, you don't need that kinda router.

Any cheap wifi AC should be okay for that coverage. With max device around 5-10.

1080p netflix is around 30mbps, so a 150mbps router should be enough.

If google did the conversion right thats about 204 sqft for us US people. Thats pretty small. My Synology RT2600AC router is over kill for the 1300 Sqft or 120 sqm.

Id still get something dual band with AC, but buying a router is not all about the wireless standard. Other features like QoS option or being able to use it in AP mode if your plan is to continue to use your providers box in gateway mode are valid other features. But like others have said ASUS makes good routers, so does Netgear and my Synology router has been rock solid for almost a year.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
