yeah but it's not for gaming

i would go for i7

you can game on Xeons perfectly fine only downside is not being able to overclock and i7's cost significantly more.

no i don't think so

xeons are not for gaming

my friend ask me to build him a pc with dual xeon

and it preformed really badlly at crysis 2 and battlefield 3  at that time

plus tony from time to live custom did benchmark

and elric from tech of tomorrow did gameplay of far cry 3

so in short version xeon it's not for gaming

*Tom.

im pretty sure we got a member here who runs the same CPU for gaming and he is pretty happy. Dual CPU wont perform good in gaming because lack of optimizations for dual cpu systems or for extreme thread count

there is only a little computing difference between E3 1230v3 and 3770

check this out

http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu.php?cpu=Intel+Xeon+E3-1230+v3+%40+3.30GHz

im saying i wouldnt get an i7 while i could get that Xeon since i know it will perform well in games along for less

...

you say ''i would go i7''

well this particular xeon is an i7. clocked 100mhz less and no internal gpu. it contains the exact haswell chip .it can game very good.like i7 haswell stock

dual xeon 8 core clocked 2.2ghz like elric used, well thats not for gaming couse in no way games use 16 threads.if you put it at proper work, the xeon even at 2.2,crushes any i5.but 2.2ghz just doesn`t cut for gaming

but I'm not looking for a duel cpu computer this Xeon is socket 1150 and not clocked at that insanely low speed of 2.2ghz

Go for whichever you'd like. Both have their pros and cons.

The Xeon allows you to get a cheaper mobo with no aftermarket cooler since you're not oc'ing and has HT which might help heavier loads but the 4670k allows you to oc with faster single cores meaning more consistent and better performance with gaming even though it's not by much.

I'd go for whichever is cheaper.

i think an i5 with a modest 4.4ghz overclock will be just as fast even when hypertheading is used on the xeon. anything above 4.4ghz would be a bonus.

  • 2 weeks later...

yeah but it's not for gaming

i would go for i7

This has got to be the most misinformed statement I have ever read. My eyes are burning.

The Xeon is the same chip, in fact it is the same die, made in the same factory, to the same specifications as an i7 4770, just with integrated graphics disabled and 100 MHz (I think) lower clock speed.

To say that Xeons are not good for gaming is a very wrong and ill-informed assertion, the Xeon family is as big as the Core family (if not bigger) and ranges from their E3 line all the way up to workstation, server and even scalable chips. Yes, the higher up Xeons will be bad for gaming because price/performance will not make sense. However, to put down the whole Xeon family is not right either.

no i don't think so

xeons are not for gaming

my friend ask me to build him a pc with dual xeon

and it preformed really badlly at crysis 2 and battlefield 3  at that time

Yes, dual Xeon systems with massive number of cores and low frequencies are bad for gaming.

In fact, let's generalise that to CPUs in general with a massive number of cores and low frequences are bad for gaming because games are more or less very lightly threaded.

This Xeon is a quadcore and is clocked at the same frequency (a little less - but not much) as a 4770. It isn't similar to an i7 4770, it is essentially the same chip.

Again, you're targeting the whole Xeon family using just a single example. Not all Xeons are high core count, low frequency chips.

Anyway, with your signature, I don't think anybody can take you too seriously anyway...
