Since after I updated to Windows 10 I've always had problem with going to Desktop during in games. Sometimes Alt + Tab works, switching between different Programs that's already running on the Desktop.
But sometimes it won't I have to press Windows key to open up the Start Menu only from there I can see my Desktop.
As I know Win + D will bring me to my Desktop, but it won't work either ( most the times and in most games ).

Sometimes it's worst, none of the keys work, neither Alt + Tab / Win+  D / Windows Key. I have to use Task Manager by Alt + Ctrl + Delete, select Task Manager, only then I can get to Desktop while gaming.
I was wondering if this is only my PC or is there some sort of settings I need to change to get it working like in Windows 7 ?? When I was using Windows 7, EVERY GAMES or ANY SCENARIO, I was ALWAYS able to just go to my Desktop via Alt + Tab, no problem, never fail me. Unless the game has a hard crash I would need to use the Alt + Ctrl + Delete and bring up Task Manager.

Speaking of game hard crashing, back when I was using Windows 7, no matter how bad the game crash, Alt + Ctrl + Delete > Task Manager will always work and I can just close the game via Task Manager.
As of recently, since I ever started using Windows 10, if my game has a crash ( So far it happens only in TES Skyrim and Oblivion, never really had any crash with other games before, even they did they will just CTD by itself ), the screen freezes but I'm unable to get to Desktop either with any method. But I'm able to Alt + Ctrl + Delete and bring up Task Manager but that won't do anything either. I won't be able to switch between my game and Task Manager, my mouse cursor won't show up. I can't shut down the game. All I can do is Log Off / Shut Down the PC entirely....to fix the crash....is this the game's fault that's causing this or it's my PC itself ??

This is why I stay with Windows 7 :/

As for your question, I believe its something like full screen applications overriding windows controls. (though I may be wrong, but feel free to let me know if I am)

Well I do play in Fullscreen for every games, I don't play Windowed / Borderless Windowed ever....if this is true...meaning there's no fix to it except if I play Windowed mode ?? Kinda stupid if it's true, I mean why this isn't an issue in Windows 7...It makes no sense.

This may happens depends on game. Is this really a problem? There is many methods to do what you want (you already know it because you tried them all). If one method doesn't work - use another.

Well not really thought it's just rather annoying and I'm quite OCD about these things when my PC not working smoothly lol....but what about the part which my game crashed so hard....I couldn't even use Task Manager ( actually can't even switch over to it ) to end it ??
I mean yeah I was able to fix it by Logging Off and Logging In again....what do you think it's the problem here ? The game or my PC or Windows ??
Have you experience it before ? ( Though this only happened in TES Oblivion and Skyrim, SO FAR !  )

I experienced it maybe once or twice when game "eats" so many resources that it was hard to display task manager (and game screen was forced to be in front). But task manager is working, even if you don't see it. I used keyboard and type first letters of executable name and press alt+e (end task). It works, but I agree it's crappy method.

BTW. You're not the only one: https://hardforum.com/threads/killing-a-frozen-program-when-you-cant-see-task-manager.1819949/

(just first link I found)

How you do that ?? This is exactly what's happening to me. My PC is still responding, everything is working. But my mouse cursor isn't there there's no way to bring it out. So I cannot do anything....

What do you mean by " I used keyboard and type first letters of executable name and press alt+e "
So let's say if it's SkyrimSE.exe. I just type Skyrim then I press Alt + E ?

EDIT : SAD ! Look at one of the solutions...posted there....

On single monitor Windows 8 PC I do:
Ctrl+Alt+Del
Log off
Log on

Problem solved

REALLY NOW ??? Wow, Good Job Windows 10, Thank You for making a better Windows.....and people said Windows 10 is more " user friendly "
Some mentioned having Task Manager Options set to " Always on Top "
I have " Minimize on Use " what does this do ??

"By keyboad" I mean:

Open task manager just now, for example.

When it's open I type (for example) "Water" since I'm using Waterfox. You may type "firef" or "opera" or whatever.

And as you see - Waterfox (or your browser) is marked.

So - shortcut to KILL is ALT+E.

And about that "solved" problem - is it really different (log out and log in) to method people using most of problems on their operating systems? I'm very surprised than no one recommend you to made fresh install in this topic. :P
