Some of my computer spec is...

I7-4770k

16gb of DDR3 1600

Evga Gtx 950

*I do light video editing, moving into doing even more.

If I do upgrade my rig to the most up to date hard ware, it would be $1000+.

I am on a super super tight budget so I can't spend that much money.

My question is...

Would buying another set of 16gb ram ddr3 1600 to have a total of 32gb ram help me cut down time on video rendering?

I can't afford a major upgrade nor can I buy on credit for another 8-12 months.

No ram doesn't affect the rendering time.

As far as i can tell from my own experiences, NO, it wont speed up your Rendering. If you render on your CPU (x264 for example) you would need more cores and higher clock speeds for faster rendering. If you render on your GPU (NVEnc) you would need a faster GPU.

BUT, more RAM can improve your overall editing workflow because you would have more Frames stored in your RAM instead of your HDD/SSD, so the playback of your clips will be smoother.

Only if you are dealing with large video files that are so large that CPU is writing them to your HDD or SSD, or to put simply, only if you don't have enough.

if you can't afford a platform upgrade then wait......save some cash aside and grab the platform parts when you can afford the whole upgrade

at this point something like a r7 1700/2700 would be good for rendering if using the CPU

I wouldn't recommend buying only 1 component at a time, I got burned last year when I got a Z170 board that I wanted to be able to get coffee lake (I was hoping with some of the rumours) and I was hoping it was compatible....but at least I have 7700k

I only do 1440 and 1080p videos.

You can seem my two rigs in the sig. No difference in time that's worth any more money.

2-3 minutes saved on 30-40 minutes it takes to render a video. But that's prolly cpu and the storage drive difference from what I have tested.
