Community Reputation?

I am new to this forum, so what is community reputation, and how do you get reputation points?

Community reputation is basically just a way to describe your activity on the forum and get points by getting reactions to posts

Basically, yes. 

You can gain a lot of reputatuion on very few posts, but usually reaction will be spread out over a long span of posts. 

Although, a lot of it can also come down to a popularity contest, so if you want to keep track of people's activity level, then their post count might be a better metric.

If you post something particularly funny or useful then people will 'react' to it. This measure is separate from the post count. Note that off topic posts do not count towards post count, but can still be used to gain reputation. And status updates can also receive reactions without it counting towards your post count.

It's a meaningless tally of who was stupid enough to react to someone's post.
