So since December 25th I've been usig this new PC and it was all fine but like 3 day later something weird happened.

So you know the surge protector right? All I had plugged in there was my PC, monitor and printer(and that grey cable for internet or whatever it is). So around 3 days after using my PC, when I woke up to turn on the switch on the surge protector switch, it didnt light up. I tried turning on the other surge protector(for the TV) but that didnt light up aswell. I tried to turn on the TV in the living room but it didnt turn on. So I thought it was a blackout. But it wasn't. You know that box(dont know how you call it in english) that has those switches for electricity?(its located above my door). I think you call it a fusebox? Yea so after flipping off the switches in it and turning it back on everything went back to normal and the light on the surge protector lighted up, my PC worked, everything was fine.

But...

About another 3 days later this happened again(today). The same thing. So I did the same thing with the fusebox and it works again. But Im afraid that in about the same time lapse(so in another 3 days or so) it will happen again, and again, and again. What could it be? Also this time my mom came in saying she smelled something like a burning cable, I opened up the side panel to see if the smell was coming from the PSU or some other part but no, it wasnt. The window was opened and ventilating so maybe the bad smell went out(even though i couldnt smell anythign in the 1st place) but my mom later said she couldnt smell it anymore.

yer check the wiring case anything isn't getting caught up or close to anything that get very hot EG GPU or CPU, but yes it sounds like a  PSU issue

she didnt say it like she was certain that its a burnt "cable" but just the smell of something burnt. Now is the PSU(CoolerMaster G650M) a bad one?

not many people here would recommend a coolermaster PSU as they are more known for their cases, but from what i have just read i meen coolermaster beleive them to be good they do have a 5 year warranty which should show a sign of good build, but officially i don't know i mean if the surge protectors are going crazy usually that is a current spike so, that's all i do know

Check the cables outside of your computer, so power cable your surge protector anything you might have plugged into anything for signs of wear, kinks in the cable, black or burned bits, extra hard or brittle cable and or flames! If you have anything like that it might be causing a short or consuming an amperage that is higher than what the tripped switch can handle (In the UK this is normally 13amps for residential)

Did this start happening after adding the surge protector? Was the computer running without one before? Do you have anything else plugged in?

I started using this PC on the 25th. Its always been plugged in the surge protector, this has not happened with the old PC i had(dell optiplex gx270). All I have plugged in the surge protector is the monitor, PC and printer(which is atm disconnected)

ok then if all the cables are fine work your way into the computer stick your head in there and get a good whiff to see if you can smell anything smokey. Also generally sniff all the things... you will look batshit insane but you may smell a faint indication of what might have been burning.

edit: if you could record this and put it on youtube it would be absolutely hilarious :D

About another 3 days later this happened again(today). The same thing. So I did the

> same thing with the fusebox and it works again.

At what point do you say, "Potential and dangerous human safety issue with household wiring."  Nothing in that computer or surge protector should be anywhere near large enough to trip a breaker (read the numbers on each item to learn why).  What is large enough to trip a breaker can also cause house fires.  So you ignored the problem?  So you listen to people who relate this to a computer or surge protector?

So many obviously have no idea how electricity works.  That others posted no numbers with any recommendation tells a consumer should ignore that recommendation.  The fewer who know this stuff always recommend with numbers.

Your symptoms suggest a professional should have been consulted yesterday or sooner.  It was that serious.  Especially when you also do not know how electricity works.  And do not understand the fuse box breaker is suggesting a possible, serious danger.

Nothing involving a power strip, computer, or TV should explain a tripped breaker.  That breaker is the last emergency 'protect your ass' device.  Stop ignoring what it is saying.

You are drawing too much power from one branch circuit.

My dad has seen power lines melt inside walls because of this!

Move something on another circuit. Here in north america the standard is 115 Volts and usually 15 Amps on one branch, so 115*15= 1725 Watts.

DO the same for you circuit and see if you are drawing too much power by adding up the watts on each device connected to that circuit.
