The 1080 will slightly outperform the 1070Ti in some instances, but for all intents and purposes, an overclocked 1070Ti will match a 1080 most of the time.

Any old SSD you can reuse?

Definitely get the 1070ti. It's 5% slower than the 1080 under the same clock speeds, but seems like 16% cheaper?

I'd go with build 1 and move up to 2x 8 Gb 2666 memory. A lot of games + Windows will hit that 8 Gb limit and cause performance hits.

any specific recommendation or any brand will do?

If it's labeled at 2666 or higher, it should work at that rating on an i5. So, whatever is the cheapest set of 2x 8 Gb and at least 2666. The cheapest tend to be 3000, in most places, for whatever combination of reasons. That might be useful in the future if you change motherboards, but as long as you hit the top of the non-OC spec, you're good.

Oh yea, I just noticed 2666, 3000 and 3200 mhz are almost the same price (~20 USD) is getting a different model of mobo z370 for the sake of the ram being used at 3000mhz justifiable?

Yes. There's a performance uplift. It's not massive, but if the RAM is going to cost you the same, it's the cheapest "in-purchase" change you can make for uplift. Max Spec on Memory is 2666 with 300-series, but the sweet spot is 2800.

Which is why the Z390 & 9th gen will come at 2933 as max supported.
